It is universally agreed that Rockstar knows how to make a great game.
Rockstar always likes to push to make a game as realistic as they can achieve at the time, recently we saw a huge step in realism with Red Dead Redemption 2, keeping players fully immersed in the game.
So what can GTA 6 learn from Red Dead Redemption 2 to give fans a modern realistic open-world experience?
What GTA 6 Can Learn From RDR2
Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most realistic gaming experiences available today, both from a visual and gameplay standpoint.
Visually, especially on PC, it is perhaps the most impressive open-world games there is.
Red Dead Redemption 2 quickly became a contender for the "But can it run Crysis?" meme, and it is clear to see why.
Even the smallest of details have been thought about and worked on.
Walking through snow leaves realistic trenches that don't disappear after a few seconds to free up resources.
And perhaps the most random mechanic of all is that an animals penis will go smaller in the cold weather.
So if you're ever curious how cold it is in-game, have a look under your horse and your question will be answered.
Even though little things like that are minor details that are often overlooked and taken for granted, they do add a sense of realism and immersion, making players feel like they are in the wild west.
Another key aspect is the ability to carry weapons, or lack of them.
In GTA V, players can carry pistols, SMGs, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, rocket launchers and more, as well as variations of them.
Players carry around dozens of weapons at any one time and they all appear from thin air when equipped.
While not a deal-breaker, when going for a realistic experience, pulling a rocket launcher out of your pocket is not very realistic and breaks immersion.
Red Dead Redemption 2 changed this by only allowing the player to carry whatever they could carry in their holsters or on their back.
This equated to four weapons, with the rest being left with the horse.
Meaning that when you're about to go face some enemies, you have to put some thought into what weapons you want to take to the fight.
GTA 6 should be the most realistic game Rockstar has created to date, so having players only carry guns they could hold in real life would keep things immersive.
Rockstar could go one step further and have police try and stop the player for openly carrying around a rocket launcher, but that is unlikely.
