World of Warcraft: Classic's latest expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, has just ushered in its Phase 2, bringing on tons of new content such as the expansion's first new raid, Ulduar, the beginnings of the Argent Tournament Grounds, and more. However, it's also introduced a completely new feature, one that wasn't a part of the original World of Warcraft game—Titan Rune dungeons.

Ever since the release of World of Warcraft: Classic back on August 26, 2019, the developers over at Blizzard Entertainment have not only re-released the beloved game—and its Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions—but they've also been iterating upon them. Standalone features like Season of Mastery and the like have been added by the developers in order to give WoW Classic players another take on the game.

That's what the newly added Titan Rune dungeons plan to do in WoW Classic WotLK.

What are Titan Rune Dungeons in WoW Classic WotLK?

Although not to the same level as Season of Mastery in WoW Classic where players get to start fresh, Titan Rune dungeons in WoW Classic WotLK bring on an extra—and much-needed, depending on who you ask—level of difficulty to 5-man dungeons.

NEW HARD-MODE: Players can take on harder 5-man dungeons

Titan Rune dungeons are a new optional mode that can be activated in Wrath of the Lich King Classic whereupon the game's 5-man dungeons get an increase of health and damage to its monsters. Additionally, they earn a new thematic gameplay effect based on the theme of the dungeon.

To activate what is called " Defense Protocol Alpha," all five of the players must interact with the Mysterious Device near each dungeon’s entrance.

Upon completing these newly difficulted dungeons, players will be awarded loot from 10-man Naxxramas, Eye of Eternity, and Obsidian Sanctum. Each time a boss is killed with Defense Protocol Alpha engaged, one of these items will drop in addition to any other loot drops

Conversely, items that previously dropped in the 25-player versions of Naxxramas, Eye of Eternity, and Obsidian Sanctum will now also drop in the 10-player versions of these raids.
