Hitman 3 is right around the corner, releasing on January 20th, a good way to kick 2021 off with a bang.
The game will see the conclusion of the World of Assassination Trilogy, which began with 2016's Hitman.
Shaping The Narrative
IO Interactive released a new trailer, which takes players behind the scenes "into the narrative conclusion of the World of Assassination Trilogy".
In the trailer the team discussed their thoughts and process in shaping the conclusion of the trilogy.
Hitman 3's main writer Michael Vogt described the story "behind the trilogy has always been serious and tense".
However he did also note that the "game as a whole is more playful".
This is quite interesting and something many players will also agree on.
The game has a very dark story, but it is incredibly fun to play, with players being able to make dozens of decisions that affect the outcome of a mission, who doesn't love waiting in a trunk for 10 minutes while you wait to smother someone in their sleep.
Michael also noted that the story has become much more prominent as the trilogy has progressed, with the story in Hitman 1 just being in the background, then becoming more of a focal point in Hitman 2, and finally being the key focus on the new Hitman 3.
Lead Writer Nick Price also attributes this to them being able to reference other parts of the story in Hitman 3, now that the narrative has been fleshed out over 3 games.
"At this point you know what the World of Assassination is, and we can reference a lot more back and forth than we could in the beginning."
The trailer concludes with Nick letting us know that "there will be some unexpected things and unexpected clean ups that you'll have to do."
Despite being a generally slow month after the holiday period, January 2021 is shaping up to be a big month for gaming, with the release of Hitman 3 later this month.
As well as The Medium and the Yakuza Remastered Collection both launching on January 28th.
Scott Pilgram vs The World Complete Edition will also be launching later this week on January 14th.
