Subnautica is an oddly scary game. The vast oceans, deep-sea creatures and that fear of the unknown. This is something only made scarier by its first-person perspective and hardcore survival mechanics.
Although Subnautica Below Zero has a lot to offer the player, sometimes you just want to get a little bit more out of your experience. This is where mods come in.
Subnautica Below Zero VR Mod Explained
A few years ago, with the explosion of Subnautica, the team worked on an official VR port for those clamouring for it.
Unfortunately, it had a bit of a rocky start due to some performance issues and the problems that come with porting your game to a new platform style. It proved to be far too difficult to run on PlayStation and they were quite candid about that.
This being said, it showed potential for the game. Being able to explore the sights of the world and the depths of the ocean with your own eyes sounds like a truly unique experience. A team of modders also saw this potential.
How to Play the VR Mode
Unfortunately, this option is only available to PC players right now. This being said, the extra hardware of the PS5 could one day allow a port, so it's worth keeping an eye on.
Get Subnautica Below Zero installed on your PC. From here, create a folder in your Subnautica director entitled "Qmods."
Download QMODMANAGER 4 over on Nexus Mods and extract it into your Qmods folder. Run the .exe file and then you can run whatever mods you like. From here, download the VR mod and extract it into the same folder as before.
Boot up the game, activating whatever you like and experience Subnautica Below Zero in VR. If you get lost on any of these steps, the team have put up some helpful instructions here.
