Skull & Bones still exists and is looking for testers

Remember Skull & Bones? Well, if you don't, it was Ubisoft's answer to Sea of Thieves only without the wit and charm. At least, we think that's the case because so little of the game was ever shown.

It received delay after delay and finally, some positive news has come out of the studio developing it. They are recruiting for their Insider Program which will offer players the chance to try out the game and play a role in the direction of the game.

While this update is sure to catch the attention of players who may have taken an interest in the game following its reveal, it's worth noting that the game still appears to be in very early development.

Ubisoft says that they're only taking on a small number of players so this feels like more of an external QA move as opposed to a fully fleshed out Insider Program. With a massive spotlight being placed on the importance of reliable and capable QA teams, it's strange to be turning to fans so publicly at this stage.

Any selected participants will also be subject to a Non-Disclosure Agreement which will limit what they can say about their experience with the game. It's highly likely that Insiders will not be able to disclose anything about their time playing the game until Ubisoft are happy for details to get out.

Based on what we know so far, Skull & Bones certainly doesn't feel like it's aiming for a 2022 release and could even spend a considerable amount of time in 'early access' with 2024 being a more likely release year.

Time, however, might be Skull & Bones' biggest enemy at this point as more and more people forget it ever even existed. It's safe to say this latest update caught a lot of people off guard after all!
