PGA Tour 2K23 is bringing back the beloved Course Designer, but this year's addition will be even further refined with new features.
Here's everything we know so far about the PGA Tour 2K23 Course Designer and a few casual multiplayer game modes that are confirmed to return.
PGA Tour 2K23 Course Designer new features revealed
We're just a few short weeks away from the launch of PGA Tour 2K23, and the latest new features revealed are for the Course Designer.
A cornerstone of PGA Tour 2K21, nearly 300,000 unique course designs were created in PGA Tour 2K21 to be shared with the community and downloaded by others.
While the base of Course Designer remains the same this year, meaning it should feel familiar to experienced designers, several upgrades were also brought to the table.
Course Designer has received an interface overhaul with smoother access to all design tools, and new cursor selection will offer easier access to objects on the course.
There's also a new spline tool which streamlines the process of creating walls and fences (including on sloped terrain) to improve on the previous tool use for surfaces and bulk-planting trees, flowers, or other foliage.
Speaking of that foliage, the majority of trees previously featured in PGA Tour 2K21 have been updated or completely rebuilt from scratch in PGA Tour 2K23.
The returning trees have improved visual quality across the board, and they've added new trees including arborvitae and dogwood.
Finally, twelve new flowers have been added to the PGA Tour 2K23 Course Designer including dahlias, geraniums, poinsettias, poppies, roses, and more.
2K also spoke briefly to veteran course designers Victory Lane and CrazyCanuck1985, both of whom have been designing courses since The Golf Club days.
Victory Lane emphasized that the interface is similar enough to not leave longtime designers stuck learning from scratch, but that there are "quality-of-life improvements in this year's version."
Both highlighted the newly upgraded splining tools and how it's made fence creation much more streamlined while it had been pretty tedious in the past.
Casual multiplayer game modes return
In addition to the reveal of Course Designer features, we got a few details about multiplayer gameplay from 2K including the return of two game modes.
Divot Derby returns and will feature up to 20 players in a battle royale race for the tee where the first golfer to make it to the ninth and final hole wins.
If you're playing and get knocked out before the final hole, players will have the option to watch the rest of the competition in Spectator Mode.
Also, three-hole matchmaking is back to help players hop into games with shorter play times with dialed up intensity.
2K emphasized that both are intended to provide fun for players that don't have time to do a full 18 hole game.
