Overwatch 2 Doomfist Rework: New Role & Abilities Revealed

With less than a week to go before Overwatch 2's PvP beta, Blizzard Entertainment has revealed the upcoming changes for Doomfist.

The mobile fist-slinging DPS hero is getting a makeover, swapping over to the tank role. However, instead of the classic, clamp down and protect your allies type of tank, he'll be looking to create space for his allies, keeping his initial kit somewhat intact.

Here's what the Doomfist rework looks like in Overwatch 2, including all changes and his new abilities.

Doomfist rework makes him a tank

As a hero, Doomfist had a unique place in the meta. His melee-based offense had him jump into the backline and look for quick picks all while being able to get out of danger in one fell swoop. In doing that, he'd create space and allow for his teammates to follow through. As a tank, he'll still be looking to do the same but in a different way.

Doomfist Changes & New Abilities

To start off, Doomfist now sits at 450 health, as opposed to his old 250. His Hand Cannon will function similarly to its past version, trading faster ammo recharge for slightly less damage. While his Rocket Punch is now quicker and deals less damage and will also maintain its potential to knock back enemies.

Doomfist's Uppercut has been removed and in its place comes a new defensive ability called Power Block. When active, it'll reduce frontal damage taken by 90%, if Doomfist blocks enough damage from enemies, his Rocket Punch will charge up. This will increase the ability's distance, travel speed, damage, and knockback radius.

"Opposing players should be cautious about charging Doomfist's gauntlet," said Lead Hero Designer Geoff Goodman. "Power Block feels kind of like Zarya when people shoot into her shields, but instead of passively gaining damage, his next punch will get a buff that lasts until he either uses Rocket Punch or is eliminated."

Doomfist's Seismic Slam now launches him in the air towards where he's aiming, similar to Winston's leap. Upon landing, he creates a shockwave, slowing and damaging enemies.

Lastly, his ultimate, Meteor Strike, has gained utility and a shorter cast time. Its overall damage has been reduced, but the impact damage at its center will still hit hard. Additionally, as opposed to having a knockback upon landing, it'll slow instead.

Players will get to get their hands on the new tank Doomfist once the Overwatch 2 beta goes live on April 26.
