The Minnesota Timberwolves were not always such middle of the pack competition. In ‘03-’04, the Timberwolves put up one of their most impressive records, going 58-24 in the regular season, finishing 1st in the NBA Midwest Division. Not only that, but they climbed their way to the western conference finals, having defeated the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings, until losing 2-4 in the conference finals against the Lakers.
Starting Lineup
Kevin Garnett, PF/C (96)
Age: 28
Position: Power Forward, Center
Height: 6’11”
Traits: All-Around Superstar
Best stats: Post Offense, Layups, Rebounding
The star of this non-studded roster, Kevin Garnett was the primary driving force to the Timberwolves’ amazing season run. Averaging 24.2 points per game, it was the 13.9 average total rebounds per game that really allowed the team to flourish. Tack on the 5.0 assists averaged per game, and you got a powerhouse that could also get around 2.2 blocks per game.
Sam Cassell, PG/SG (85)
Age: 34
Position: Point Guard, Shooting Guard
Height: 6’3”
Traits: Offensive Superstar
Best stats: Layups, 3Pt, Ball handling
Although not remembered in the fondest memories, Sam Cassell pulled his fair share of weight during the seasons. Averaging 19.8 points per game, as well as 7.3 assists per game, he made his name known by having a strong .517 eFG%, forcing defenses to cover him.
Latrell Sprewell, SF (82)
Age: 33
Position: Small Forward
Height: 6’5”
Traits: Point Forward
Best stats: Vertical Lateral Quickness, Stamina
With his prime pretty far behind him, Latrell Sprewell needed to go out with a bang. If this was a year to do it, he did it. Averaging 16.8 points per game, he also had a respectable 3.8 total rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists average per game. Allowing his team to finish the game off meant he could focus more on being in the right spot at the right time to enable them.
Wally Szczerbiak, SF/SG (78)
Age: 27
Position: Small Forward, Shooting Guard
Height: 6’7”
Traits: Sharpshooter
Best stats: Mid-Range, 3Pt, Stamina
While not having the most illustrious career in the league, he was still part of the team, and helped them to have a strong finish. Averaging just barely 10.2 points per game, he held a 1.2 assist per game, as well as 3.1 total rebounds per game.
Trenton Hassell, SG/SF (71)
Age: 25
Position: Shooting Guard, Small Forward
Height: 6’5”
Traits: Two-Way Guard
Best stats: Mid-Range, Stamina, Layups
More of a filler than a full on starter, Trenton Hassell was there just to make sure the court was filled. Although it was his 3rd career season in the NBA, he held a measly 5.0 points per game. He slightly made up for it, however, with 3.2 total rebounds per game, as well as 1.6 assists per game, and a decent .470 eFG% to boot.
