These early years of Vince Carter’s career were enjoyable for fans and players alike. Carter burst onto the scene with high flying dunks and an ability to score at will. This roster was a one-time experiment that finished 45-37 and flopped in the first round of the playoffs. After this season, McGrady and Christie would both leave and head coach Butch Carter would be fired.
Starting Lineup
Muggsy Bogues, PG (OVR 75)
Age: 35
Height: 5’3”
Traits: Crafty Playmaker
Best Stats: Ball Handling, Stamina, Passing
Bogues is often hyped for his ability to play in the league at such a short height. The truth is, especially at his old age, Bogues was never an incredible stat stuffer. This season, he was not a starter and only averaged 5.1 points and 3.7 assists per game.
Vince Carter, SG (OVR 92)
Age: 23
Height: 6’6”
Traits: All-Around Superstar
Best Stats: Vertical, Stamina, Layups
It was only Carter’s second year in the league, but it was clear that this was his team. Averaging 25.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game, Carter was considered a star. He was chosen as a NBA All-Star and won the dunk contest this season.
Tracy McGrady, SG (OVR 82)
Age: 21
Height: 6’8”
Traits: Athletic Finisher
Best Stats: Vertical, Ball handling, Speed
McGrady was a young buck at this point and still learning the ropes of the NBA. He came off the bench for most of this season and averaged 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. He left Toronto after this season and went on to become an All-Star, a topic many Raptors fans do not like to discuss.
Doug Christie, SG (OVR 78)
Age: 30
Height: 6’6”
Traits: Two-Way Guard
Best Stats: 3PT, Ball Handling, Passing
Toronto had an endless amount of options on the perimeter for the purpose of scoring. Christie was no exception to this, averaging 12.4 points, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He offered a well-round game, but was traded to the Kings after this disappointing season.
Antonio Davis, C (OVR 77)
Age: 31
Height: 6’9”
Traits: Tenacious Rebounder
Best Stats: Rebounding, Strength, Layups
Davis was the featured big man on this team, but was actually quite small for the position. Regardless, he was still effective with averages of 11.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He lacked efficiency for a big man, with a field goal percentage of 44%.
