Minecraft 1.20 is well on the way, and Trails and Tales is expected to bring a ton of new content and features to the game. Tons of new blocks and a whole new biome are among the additions, and true to its name the update should add a much more storied feel to the game.
The update is releasing later this year, but you can access it right now through the Java Snapshot and Bedrock beta. Here's everything you need to know about the community vote mob arriving, the Sniffer.
Minecraft Sniffer
The Sniffer is an ancient mob that was extinct but is now able to come back to life with a little help from you. The community has had their say, and it's here to stay, but you won't be able to just grab one, you'll need to don your adventuring gear and get ready.
To bring the sniffer back to Minecraft, you will need to find its eggs and help them hatch. You can try this out for the first time in the Bedrock beta and Java snapshot that are out right now!
Without giving too much away, the Sniffer will be heavily tied into the new Archaeology feature in Trails and Tales. With the focus on storytelling, once you have one he may be an invaluable resource in finding some of the new items added.
The Sniffer will be able to quite literally sniff out seeds that used to exist when they first roamed the Overworld! You can plant them to fill your game with new unique decorative plants.

Where to find the Sniffer
As previously mentioned, you won't be able to locate Sniffers in the Overworld without some help from yourself. Beware of spoilers reading on, as you'll be able to hatch your very own with some solid detective work if you're so inclined in the new Minecraft update.
When getting to know the final form of the sniffer, the first step is to ready yourself for an adventure, and set out into the Overworld and start searching. Sniffer eggs can be found in suspicious sand, which also contains other objects like pottery shards.
Once you’ve unearthed your egg, it’s time to help it hatch! You'll definitely want to keep a close eye on it, because you haven't lived until you have seen a Snifflet burst out of its shell. Once it's born and you’ve stopped cooing over how cute it is, it will grow up into a Sniffer.
