IO Interactive Is Making A New 007 James Bond Game

James Bond and video games has had a weird relationship over the years.

007 Goldeneye is often hailed as one of the greatest shooters of all time, but apart from that most of the games have been fairly lacklustre.

That might be changing with IO Interactive taking the helm for the first Bond game in over 8 years.

Who Are IO Interactive?

IO Interactive are best known for the Hitman series, in fact that's pretty much all they've developed.

AGENT 47: IO Interactive are best known for the Hitman series.

First releasing in 2000, the company have developed every game in the series and are continuing to do with the upcoming Hitman 3 which is launching in January 2021.

The company also created the Kane & Lynch series, as well as Mini Ninja's and Freedom Fighters.

James Bond In Video Games

James Bond has been in a staple in video games ever since 1982's Shaken Not Stirred on the ZX Spectrum.

Since then he has starred in over 20 games, including the critically acclaimed 007 Goldeneye on the N64.

I'M INVINCIBLE!: Goldeneye is still highly regarded today and has a very active speed running community.

Goldeneye is a game that is still talked about today and hailed as one of the greatest FPS games of all time, setting the stage for what would become standard practice in the genre.

The game still has a very active user base even today, thanks to the rise in popularity of speed running.

Speed running groups, such as The Elite, have been around since the early 2000s and still remain active today.

However, since Goldeneye it has been a rather rocky road for Mr Bond when it comes to video games.

Some games have been really good, such as 007: Nightfire, while others have been rather mediocre.

Project 007

IO Interactive have announced that they are working on a new James Bond game, currently titled Project 007.

They released a teaser video but no information was given about the game.

On the game's website it states that,

"Featuring a wholly original Bond story, players will step into the shoes of the world's favourite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story."

It appears that the game won't be focusing on any particular movie and will instead be its own stand alone story.

In a press release, the CEO of IO Interactive, Hakan Abrak says,

“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry. Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”
