As a game that has withstood the test of time since its release in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V has managed to keep things fresh with constant updates and new events.
This has been extended even further with the developers' newly announced GTA Online subscription service, GTA+.
And while the service is set to bring tons of benefits, many players aren't too keen on the idea, making it clear that feels like a cash grab in the end.
Rockstar Games introduce new GTA Online subscription service: GTA+
Just today Rockstar Games announced a brand new subscription service for GTA Online called GTA+. Priced at $5.99 a month, the service releases on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022.
With the subscription, players will be able to collect tons of new goodies and benefits. They will be entitled to $500,000 in their accounts every month, get to participate in new events, own new properties, take part in gameplay updates, and much more.
However, this all might be a stopgap to hold GTA players over as GTA 6 continues to be a dangling carrot in front of fans.
After all, while news of next GTA game keeps surfacing, it's not the news players want to hear.
GTA Online fans aren't too happy with the new GTA+ subscription
Reacting to the announcement of the new GTA Online subscription, many players took to the official GTA Online subreddit to voice their criticisms.
Some of the highest-rated comments attack Rockstar directly, stating:
- "How will the starving indie devs over at Rockstar make it without this?!?"
- "Are they going bankrupt or something? This is wild."
Others took aim at the returns of the GTA+ subscription service, criticizing it for offering "essentially nothing."
"Pay money and get essentially nothing," stated one GTA Online player. "A day of grinding will get you more than this membership will in a year. Unbelievable."
Although news of a possible GTA 6 keeps surfacing, players of the long-time franchise aren't satisfied with the slow progress and light frills added to GTA 5 to push it into nearly a decade of online play. Time will tell if Rockstar will make things right with these critics with GTA+ by the time it goes live in GTA Online later this month.
