GTA 6 is still nowhere to be seen; the game hasn't even been announced yet.
However, this hasn't stopped fans from speculating and creating their own wishlist of things they want to see in the game.
And, at least judging by the users in the GTA sub-Reddit, players can almost universally agree on one thing: that they hope Rockstar Games gets right in the upcoming GTA 6.
What Fans Want To See In GTA 6
In a post on the GTA 6 sub-Reddit, a member asked what players are looking forward to the most, and the winning choice in the poll was 'open-world/free roam'.
GTA V saw the game return to Los Santos - based on Los Angeles and also the setting for GTA: San Andreas.
The city is very accurately recreated based on different parts of Los Angeles, with key parts of the city and county easily spotted in the game.
And one aspect players have praised throughout the years is the immersion that the map provides.
NPCs are just going about their daily lives, whether that is taking a walk down by the beach, doing maintenance, or just doing everyday tasks. The game makes you feel like you are in a city full of life and adventures.
GTA V is now over seven years old, having first released in 2013, and a lot has changed in regards to technology and what developers are now capable of creating.
Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018, took things further and really improved the immersion aspect of the game.
The game sees NPCs live out regular lives in ways we might expect them to during the time period it's set.
By following them around, we can see what a day looks like for these characters and most are unique to each other.
Most NPCs will wake up in the morning, then do whatever tasks they may need to, such as chopping wood for the fire, before heading out to work.
At lunchtime, you might see them sneak off for a cheeky pint before returning to work.
In the evening, they might head to the Saloon for some more drinks and social interaction. These characters live complete and fulfilling lives, and they're just programmed NPCs.
To do this on such a large scale is a massive undertaking, but Rockstar did it.
Now, we are three years post-Red Dead Redemption 2, a new generation of consoles is here, and PC tech is constantly improving. Therefore, players have very high hopes for the next entry in the GTA series.
Fans of the series are hoping for the immersion of RDR2 but dialled up to 11.
The map of RDR2 is fairly barren by GTA's standard. There is no bustling city that could be home to millions of people if it was real, but this is due to the time period the game is set in.
But, we know Rockstar never looks back and we don't think they will start with GTA 6.
With their new patented NPC AI capabilities, we can expect to see this level of immersion ramped up for GTA 6.
Players will be able to lose themselves in whichever city the game is set in, which is rumoured to be Vice City.
As of right now, GTA 6 has yet to be announced, but it is rumoured to be officially revealed later this year, complete with a 2023 release date, although this is unconfirmed.
As soon as we hear more about what is next for GTA, we'll be sure to let you know.
