It was only a matter of time before GTA 5 was confirmed for Next-Gen consoles.
First releasing in September 2013, Rockstar Games' latest Grand Theft Auto has withstood the test of time and remains one of the most popular titles on current-gen consoles.
Now, looking forward, Rockstar Games have confirmed that both GTA 5 and GTA Online are getting a next-gen update. There's just the question of when.
GTA 5 Next-Gen Update Release Date
Following its reveal last summer, Rockstar has finally revealed when GTA 5 will be coming to next-gen consoles.
Both a PS5 version of GTA 5 and an Xbox Series X version have been confirmed, with GTA Online carrying over to them.
GTA 5 Enhanced Edition will release on next-gen console on November 11, 2021, Rockstar confirmed in a blog post.
We'll have more on the game once details are released ahead of launch.
GTA Online on PS5 & Xbox Series X|S
When GTA 5 first launched, GTA Online was delayed and launched a couple weeks after the main game.
However, with GTA Online being completely up-and-running it seems a safe assumption that it will launch alongside the next-gen versions of the game.
In addition to this, PS5 owners will be able to download a standalone version of GTA Online.

This appears to be a timed-exclusive with Sony, but will most-likely release on Xbox Series X|S after a few months.
Will GTA Online Characters Carry Over?
Looking back, when GTA 5 was launched on Xbox One and PS4, GTA Online players had similar questions.
Thankfully, back then it was just a case of booting up the newer version of the title and carrying on where you left off.
It seems as if this will also be the case for the next-gen version of GTA 5 and GTA Online.
GTA 5 Single Player DLC?
Yeah, we can ask. Can't we?
Unfortunately, this seems unlikely. Unlike it's predecessors, GTA 5 has not received any Single Player DLC since launch.
Rather than add to the single player experience, Rockstar Games have opted to continually update GTA Online.

The recent Cayo Perico Heist, however, does suggest that some single player changes could be on the cards.
The recent update added a whole new area to GTA Online, including new vehicles and weapons.
Although this area is currently not available in Free Mode on GTA Online, it isn't outside the realms of possibility that this area could make it's way more permanently to GTA 5 via a next-gen update.
Are you looking forward to the GTA 5 next-gen update? What would you like to see added?
