Genshin Impact is a vast world with many elements and mechanics to grasp, to the point that new players can get overwhelmed when it comes time to form a team.
To help that along, we'll break down some of Genshin Impact's most popular teams in the current update, 2.6, starting with Permafrost teams.
Permafrost Teams
Let's clarify that Permafrost is not a term that comes from the game. Instead, it has been coined by the Genshin Impact community to describe certain teams that follow a similar elemental composition.
There are more terms like this, and most of them follow a very arbitrary designation, like Boba Team, Rational, and National Team, just to mention a few.
In the case of Permafrost or Permafreeze teams, the name is actually quite relevant to its strengths. The idea of these teams is to keep enemies constantly frozen with clever use of Hydro and Cryo elements.
Permafrost Team Members
There are several variations to Permafrost teams in Genshin Impact, but all of them use the following combination of characters:
Main DPS
- Cryo character with high DMG output.
- The team is built around this character, and its mission is to destroy the opposition.
- Characters for this role include: Ayaka, Ganyu, Kaeya
Support
- A second Cryo character is fundamental for two reasons.
- Elemental Resonance: when a team has more than one character of the same element, they will receive a bonus.
- In the case of Cryo characters: It increases Crit. Rate against enemies that are Frozen or affected by Cryo by 15%.
- Particle Battery: The generation of Energy Particles is necessary to activate the Elemental Burst abilities.
- The Energy Particles are generated by hitting enemies with skills; players can see them being absorbed by characters during battle.
- Two Cryo characters will generate the double of Cryo particles as this correspond to one element.
- NOTE: Few characters generate universal particles suitable for all elements (Diona, Raiden).
- Characters for this role include: Shenhe, Shenhe, Chongyun
Elemental Enabler
- There cannot be freezing without the combination of cold and water. Therefore the third character in this team is a Hydro character.
- The Hydro character needs to infuse Hydro element in enemies, so they get frozen with Cryo abilities.
- Characters for this role include: Kokomi, Mona, Xingqiu
Sub-DPS
- The role of Sub-DPS is a character with a combination of solid DMG output and versatile abilities.
- In the case of Permafrost, this position is the only flexible and doesn't demand a character of a certain element, except for Pyro, which would melt the ice.
- However, due to the power of pulling enemies together and shredding enemies' defenses, most teams prefer an Anemo Character in this slot.
- Characters for this role include: Kazuha, Venti, Sucrose
Most Common Teams
- Ayaka Permafrost
- Currently, the saint grail of Permafrost.
- Main DPS: Ayaka (Cryo)
- Sub DPS: Kazuha (Anemo)
- Elemental Enabler: Kokomi (Hydro)
- Support: Shenhe (Cryo)
- A variation more F2P friendly: Ayaka, Xingqiu, Sucrose, Diona.
- Ayaka is featured in the current banner, and we strongly recommend spending wishes on her.
- Morgana
- The name comes from the combination of Mona and Ganyu.
- Main DPS: Ganyu (Cryo)
- Sub DPS: Venti (Anemo)
- Elemental Enabler: Mona (Hydro)
- Support: Diona (Cryo)
- Beginners Permafrost
- There is a chance to do a solid team with free characters and 4-stars.
- Main DPS: Kaeya (Cryo)
- Sub DPS: Sucrose (Anemo)
- Elemental Enabler: Barbara (Hydro)
- Support: Chongyun, Rosaria or Diona (Cryo)
Permafrost Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
- Best team to take down a big group of enemies.
- Elemental Resonance and Artifacts provide a significant amount of Crit. Rate
- Safe playstyle as enemies will not be able to counterattack as they are frozen.
Weaknesses
- Not very good against bosses as they can not get frozen.
- Players will have a hard time against characters with Cryo Shields.
