The introduction of Yae Miko as a playable character in Genshin Impact 2.5 produced mixed reactions in the game community.
For some players, Yae Miko's playstyle was not up to the expectations put into the character. Since her introduction in the storyline, the Kitsune friend of the Electro Archon has become a fan favorite.
In the end, though, Yae Miko's abilities were not perfect, and players were very disappointed in the gameplay they received, especially centering around her Elemental Skill.
After Genshin Impact 2.6 looked to make some changes for Yae Miko's abilities, these changes have since been reverted after causing some gameplay issues, and travelers will receive free Priomgems as a result!
Spiritfox Sin-Eater
The ability Spiritfox Sin-Eater leave totems in the field that will inflict Electro DMG to enemies in the area.
Yae Miko dashes graciously up to three times leaving behind Sesshou Sakura, a kitsune shape totem. But the controversy arises when players find out that the Sesshou Sakura were targeting inanimate objects like chests or rocks.
Chinese Community Backlash
The situation came to a head when the biggest community in the game, the Chinese Server players, sabotage the selling of the Yae Miko banner until they receive a fix to this problem.
Hoyoverse didn't address the situation at that moment. So finally, they decided to make a fix by changing Yae Miko's Elemental Skill Target Mechanic during the release of version 2.6.
The Wrong Move
The changes in Yae Miko's Elemental skill focused on targets that were very near to Sesshou Sakura.
But these changes were causing the following new problems:
- First, during the battle, the ability was targeting the same enemy. Sometimes the opponent was carrying a shield as well, making the whole attack pointless.
- The second problem was related to the range. One of the best qualities of Yae Miko's playstyle was the ability to reach all enemies in areas like the Spiral Abyss.
- After changes, only a fraction of the enemies were affected, complicating the rotation and losing precious seconds.
The biggest issue of them all was that the changes were contradicting the second Yae Miko Constellation, which increases the range of the Elemental Skill.
With the new targeting set to only the closest enemies, constellation 2 was practically useless. The situation naturally enraged players, who spent around $200-300 to obtain it.
The Last Fix?
Hoyoverse has since released an emergency patch, reverting the changes made in Yae Miko's ability during Genshin Impact 2.6, and all players will obtain 100 Primogems in their in-game email as compensation.
But the question is still pending, is reverting the changes the proper fix? Yae Miko's elemental was targetting random objects before that, which is a whole other set of problems, and players seemed just as frustrated with this ineffectiveness as they were with the later bugs after her changes.
In the end, players will have to wait and see how Hoyoverse approaches Yae Miko changes in the future, and for now, can count the free Primogems awaiting them in-game.
