The release of FIFA 24 is on the horizon and players want to know whether the new game will support crossplay.
First of all, it's important to understand what 'crossplay' actually is and how it would apply to FIFA 24.
Crossplay describes the ability of players using different video game hardware to play with each other simultaneously.
In FIFA terms, crossplay describes the ability for Next-Gen users (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) to play the game with previous-Gen users (PS4 and Xbox One).
So, now that we've cleared that up, let's find out whether FIFA 24 will support crossplay.
FIFA 24 Crossplay
Before we get into the details, you must understand that FIFA as we know it will henceforth be named EA Sports FC, following the split between EA Sports and FIFA.
This means that FIFA 23 will be the last made collaboratively by the two organisations, with an FC 24 reportedly in the works for a release in September 2023.
EA has not yet revealed any official information regarding crossplay in EA Sports FC, so we can only speculate at this current time, using FIFA 23 as a reference.
FIFA 23 featured crossplay and cross-platform play between multiple platforms for the first time in the franchise.
However, there are some limitations.
Game modes
While players on Next-Gen could play with each other and those on previous-Gen can matchmake together, this is only available in 1v1 modes in FIFA 23.
This means you could match against players on different platforms in Ultimate Team, Online Seasons and Online Friendlies in FIFA 23.
This feature will most definitely remain for EA Sports FC.
However, FIFA 23's Pro Clubs mode does not support crossplay at the time of writing.
EA is said to be working on implementing crossplay to the mode which can see as many as 22 players taking part at once.
Perhaps the beginning of the new franchise will see EA make crossplay available on EA Sports FC, but this remains to be seen.
The smart choice
Last year, EA made an Ultimate Edition of FIFA 23 available to purchase which came with several unique bonuses.
One of these bonuses is being granted access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, allowing you to switch between the two with ease on the same account or console.
All you need to do to switch between the two versions is press options on the game and then under 'game version' change to whichever one you like.
We expect an Ultimate Edition of EA Sports FC to be made available, giving you similar unique bonuses.
So, if you've got a Next-Gen console but want to link up with your friends who haven't managed to secure one yet, the Ultimate Edition is for you.
