Bungie set to reveal The Witch Queen during their Destiny 2 Showcase today

We're hours away from today's Destiny 2 Showcase and it's one of the biggest events in the Destiny 2 calander. We're going to learn about Season 15 - and then it's due to launch a little after the Showcase stream - and the next major expansion is going to be revealed! The Witch Queen is coming and Bungie is finally going to share more information about the future of Destiny 2 and where the story is headed next. Here's what we know...

OH LAWD - She's coming...

We're just a few hours away from the Destiny 2 Showcase now and Bungie has been pretty quiet. There have been a few leaks, but the Destiny 2 community has been quick to stomp these out in an effort to preserve the hype surrounding the upcoming The Witch Queen reveal and the start of Season 15.

Bungie, for some reason, decided to share that this incarnation of the Witch Queen Savathun is around 21 feet tall.

To put that into perspective, that's over three times the height of the average man - Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village only clocks in at 9 foot 6 inches! She's going to be almost two stories tall and put up one hell of a fight - should you need to face-off against her.

SEASON 15 - It's starting as soon as it can

In an effort to allow players to jump into Season 15 as soon as the Destiny 2 Showcase is finished, they're set to start Server Maintenance a little bit before and implement the next Destiny 2 title update during the presentation.

The timeline of events is as follows:

  • Server Maintenance Starts
    • 08:00 PST / 11:00 EST / 16:00 BST
  • Update 3.3.0 Available
    • 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST
  • Maintenance Concludes
    • 12:00 PST / 15:00 EST / 20:00 BST

Update 3.3.0 is going to be available simultaneously on all platforms and Destiny 2 players should be able to log in and start playing the Season of the Lost from 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST. We don't know how long the Destiny 2 Showcase is going to be - however, this makes it look like it's going to be around an hour long.

CONFIRMED - We're going to see something about The Witch Queen

Everyone already knew this already, but Bungie has finally confirmed that their upcoming The Witch Queen Expansion for Destiny 2 is going to feature during the Destiny 2 Showcase. We don't know exactly how much of the showcase is going to be about the upcoming expansion, but it won't be all of it - Season 15 is due to start straight after it!

The Witch Queen is due to release in Early 2022 - that doesn't mean we won't get a release date during the Destiny 2 Showcase, though. We don't think we're going to learn too much about the specifics of the expansion, though.

It looks like Bungie has a Cinematic Trailer lined up and we can imagine we'll hear a few comments about the narrative direction the series is looking to continue with in the future. There's still the entirety of Season 15 to discuss, of course.

When does the Destiny 2 Showcase start?

If you're looking for information about the start time of Bungie's Destiny 2 Showcase, we've got you covered. The big event is scheduled to start on August 24th - ahead of Season 15's release - at the following times:

  • 09:00 PST
  • 12:00 EST
  • 17:00 BST

We're not sure how long it's going to be, though. It's being pitched as a showcase and we're expecting quite a lot of information - So, it should be more than a couple of trailers shoe-horned together.

This Destiny 2 Showcase could last 20 minutes, but it could last an hour and a half. The future of the series is being talked about with a lot of grandeur so expect a lot of information out of this one.

We're going to learn about Season 15...

Interestingly, Destiny 2 Season 15 is due to start on the same day as this Destiny 2 Showcase and we actually don't know a lot about it ahead of time.

At the moment, we know that the next season of content is being titled "Season of the Lost", but there's little else to go on other than the following teaser:

Bungie has confirmed that Season 15 is due to start immediately after the Destiny 2 Showcase, too. So, this means we should expect maintenance to start at the same time as the Destiny 2 Showcase and - with any luck - Season 15 will be ready to play from around an hour later.

And The Witch Queen Expansion...

Destiny 2's The Witch Queen Expansion is currently scheduled to release in Early 2022 - which will then be followed by Destiny 2 Lightfall in 2023 - and we know very little about the next game-changing expansion for Bungie's looter-shooter.

We don't actually know for sure if we're going to hear about The Witch Queen Expansion during the Destiny 2 Showcase, but it seems almost guaranteed when you look at the teasers and the imagery being used.

As you can see in the Tweet above, Destiny 2 has offered us a "look back before we look ahead". A lot of fans are expecting some sort of teaser trailer from the Destiny 2 Showcase at the very least. Only time will tell, though, if this will be the case.
