Black Ops Cold War's Zombies saw the return of Nacht der Untoten in Die Maschine. Now, Vanguard's Der Anfang is going to see the return of Shi No Numa - another classic World at War zombies map. There is a catch though - here's the latest on the return of this iconic Zombies location...
EARLY REPORTS - Shi No Numa's been cut short
Early reports from Nanikos, a popular Call of Duty leaker and data miner, seems to confirm that Shi No Numa's appearance in Vanguard isn't all that it seems.
As you can see in the tweet below, it looks like Shi No Numa's main hut is the only area that's going to be available to play.
This being said, Nanikos does go on to say that the balconies around the main hut are being opened up. However, this does make Shi No Numa quite a compact area of Der Anfang. The other two offshoot areas of Shi No Numa are notably more open. Could we see those return in a future update? Or will Treyarch just opt for another map entirely...?
CONFIRMED - Shi No Numa is coming back!
Following the official reveal of Vanguard's Zombies mode - via the trailer you can watch below - Treyarch has confirmed that Shi No Numa is indeed coming back to Call of Duty Zombies in next month's Vanguard.
We don't know if it's going to be available at launch just yet, but it's a promising start to a Zombies mode that looks as though it's embracing the previous aesthetic of Treyarch's Call of Duty Zombies, despite continuing the Dark Aether storyline established in Black Ops Cold War's Zombies mode.
Treyarch is set to share more about their upcoming entry into the Call of Duty Zombies saga at 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST. Keep your eyes peeled.
A GOOD SIGN? - Is this what the fans want?
Shi No Numa isn't the best Zombies map out there, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be excited to see it make a comeback in Vanguard Zombies. The last time we saw an original Zombies map make a comeback, it was actually quite good...
Nacht Der Toten's appearance in Cold War Zombies' Die Maschine wasn't a like-for-like replica - the building you battle it out in while playing World at War was just a central feature for an expanded Zombies map more in keeping with what we expect from the mode nowadays.
Die Maschine was far from the biggest Zombies map, but it was several times larger than Nacht der Untoten and the original map was integrated into a completely unique Zombies experience. The Nacht der Untoten building was a dangerously tight connecting point for two open areas of Die Maschine - it paid homage to the origins of the mode while adhering to the evolution that has taken place since World at War's release in 2008.
Shi No Numa is better than Nacht der Untoten and Call of Duty Zombies fans should be excited for its appearance in Vanguard's Zombies. It's not going to be the same map we know and love, but we're certain that it'll feel familiar enough that we'll know our way around.
