Gareth Bale Retires
Multi-time Champions League winner Gareth Bale has announced his retirement from professional football, closing the chapter on one of the greatest careers in the game.
Questions over Bale's future arose after the World Cup, where his native Wales exited at the group stage.
In a statement on social media, Bale confirmed his retirement from both club and international football.
Bale thanked his former clubs and many fans for supporting him throughout his career, whilst also teasing a step into a new chapter, which could well involve some involvement with the Welsh national team, for which Bale proved to be a true hero.
A Glittering Career
Bale made a major impact on the beautiful game throughout his career, with his performances at Spurs helping them to progress as a club, before making a major money move to Real Madrid.
His time in Madrid wasn't without controversy, but the Welshman did go on to win 5 Champions League titles with Los Blancos, including a stunning brace to sink Liverpool in the final.
Bale may have wound down his career in recent years but his love for his country was always inspiring and the king of Wales will also be known for being the first Welshman to captain his country at a World Cup for the first time in 60 years.
A glistening career, with no doubt a future in football - or even golf - very much on the cards.
