Borderlands 3 is free to play for the weekend

Gearbox Software’s hit shooter Borderlands 3 is currently free to play on console, so Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PlayStation Plus members can play without restriction until November 24th 2019.

The game hit PC and consoles in September following five years of development and a slightly rocky promotional cycle.

Critical response to the game was mixed, but that didn’t stop it selling over five million copies in its first week.

The event was announced on yesterday’s The Borderlands Show, a weekly podcast dedicated to all things Borderlands.

A free DLC update for the game also arrives today which adds the free challenge, Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, described as a "raid-style challenge tuned for coordinated co-op parties of four max-level characters".

During this time, the game and its Super Deluxe Edition are also reduced by 33% on the Xbox One Digital Games Store and PlayStation Store

Any achievements and trophies earned during the weekend will carry over to purchased copies of the game.
