EA DICE's Battlefield 2042 looks like it could be the best Battlefield title yet and we can't wait to get stuck in. Sure, we're a few months away from the release date, but there's still more Battlefield 2042 content to come between now and then. EA DICE's new Battlefield title is going to appear at EA PLAY Live later today and we have everything you need to know about the showcase and what we're going to see.
LATEST - Battlefield Portal Has Been Revealed At EA Play Live
An incredible sandbox creation mode, titled Battlefield Portal, was revealed. This mode gives players access to content from multiple previous Battlefield titles to create insane and crazy matches.
What We Know, What We Don't
EA's showcase, titled EA PLAY Live, is only rumoured to be around 40 minutes long. We know FIFA 22 and Madden 22 are likely to appear. Apex Legends Season 10 is going to get a run-out and Battlefield 2042 is going to show up in some capacity.
Is that it? It's hard to imagine how much more EA are going to pack into 40 minutes of content. We know there has been a Dead Space Remaster rumour floating around, and we're hoping that it's true, but what else could we see?
Sadly, we know BioWare and Skate are skipping this showcase and there won't be any Star Wars Games showing up. That doesn't mean there isn't anything to look forward to, though.
People want to see a new SSX title, there's the next Need For Speed game, whatever Codemasters has been cooking up under EA... This could really give us a bit of everything as a games showcase and we can't wait.
When Does EA Play Live 2021 Start?
It might still sound like it's far away, but EA Play Live 2021 is actually very close. We don't know when Battlefield 2042 is going to appear in the presentation, but EA Play Live 2021 is due to start at 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST on July 22nd.
If you check out the video below, you'll be able to keep an eye on when the presentation is due to start. We're expecting some sort of countdown on the stream itself, though. This means we could see Battlefield 2042 footage start appearing from 10:30 PST / 13:30 EST / 18:30 BST or later.
There are rumours that the EA Play Live 2021 showcase is only going to last around 40 minutes, but these are unconfirmed. DICE has confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will be appearing at EA Play Live, though, alongside the latest iterations of FIFA and Madden.
What We Know About Battlefield 2042 So Far
Battlefield 2042 was only revealed a little while ago, but we already feel like we know quite a lot about the new title.
Firstly, Battlefield 2042 is going to be a Multiplayer Only experience. We know this sounds like a bad thing, but that doesn't mean there isn't going to be stuff to do. People have been criticising EA about this decision when you look at how much Battlefield 2042 is going to set you back, but we are going to try out best not to rush to judgements on what we've seen so far.
There's going to be at least seven maps available at launch, each with dynamic features and enough scale and verticality to keep things exciting. Orbital, set in French Guiana, is going to take place around the launchpad of a rocket. Hourglass takes place in Qatar and features dynamic sandstorms in between the skyscrapers. As annoying as a lack of Single Player content might be, they all look very good.
In addition to this, we know that Battlefield 2042 is going to feature an evolution of Battlefield V's Firestorm battle royale mode. Hazard Zone is going to "move the battle royale concept on in a way only Battlefield can" and we can't wait to learn more.
What We Want To See From DICE
First and foremost, we want to see more about Hazard Zone. Firestorm was fun, but it lacked the spark to cement it as one of the great battle royale experiences alongside its competitors. Hazard Zone is an evolution of this and you have to wonder how EA DICE has built on their blueprints to create something truly epic.
In addition to this, the Battlefield 2042 website has a "REDACTED" section underneath Hazard Zone. Here's the description:
" Tune in to EA PLAY Live on July 22 and watch the reveal of this love letter to Battlefield fans and long-time players, developed by DICE LA."
This could really be anything, couldn't it? Rush and Conquest are both modes that make Battlefield iconic and we would love to see them make a return, however... Would it be outrageous to hope that EA is talking about a remaster of Battlefield 1943?
This smaller-scale WWII Battlefield experience was one of the best and it deserves more love. It was brought out in 2009, though, and releasing a remaster would take away from Battlefield 2042. So... We're not keeping our hopes up. As love letters go, though, that would be a great one.
