Apex Legends' Season 10 update is coming soon and that means the World's Edge map changes are on their way. We know about all the big changes that Respawn Entertainment are making to the map, but how is this going to change everything? Here's what we know...
Are the changes a good thing?
At the moment, we don't know. Season 10 hasn't arrived just yet. All we can look to is what Respawn Entertainment's Senior Level Designer has to say about the changes that are coming...
" For the Emergence update, we wanted to retain the design philosophy of World’s Edge as much as possible while improving things with fun, fresh new gameplay spaces and experiences."
In the grand scheme of things, the new POI changes should force experienced players to rethink how they approach certain areas of the map and offer new challenges for multi-team situations and end-game firefights. There's also going to be new rotations to help the flow of the game in the northern areas of the map.
It might seem like a small change, but it makes these edge-of-map POIs much more viable and will open up any end-game fights in the area. The new skybox, which is now brighter and blue-er, should also help make everything feel a little fresher going forwards.
Ranked Arenas and the new Arenas map rotation should also reflect the new lighting changes, but this hasn't been confirmed yet.
All the World's Edge changes detailed
Following the Gameplay Trailer, Respawn has offered some updated information about how they're changing World's Edge going into Apex Legends Season 10. Here's a quick run-down of the details...
Climatizer
The Refinery POI is being replaced by a larger POI called Climatizer; The area will be covered in snow and should offer more loot to fight over than before.
" The idea here is that Hammond has constructed massive cloud seeding towers to cool down World’s Edge, and this new POI features the necessary equipment."
Fissure Extension
There's going to be more lava and fewer ways to make it across the map following the Season 10 update; Parts of the new Fissure will be traversable while other parts will still use the updraft airlift mechanic.
" The planet has fractured all the way from the Climatizer to Fragment East, with a bubbling lava river connecting the two."
Lava Siphon
The Sorting Factory POI has been swallowed by a sinkhole and replaced with Lava Siphon. This should introduce a more chaotic POI with a lot of verticalities to combat situations.
" The large lava Siphon building embedded into the mountain offers a lot of interesting close-encounter fights and also introduces a new additional rotation entrance/exit to the existing train track tunnel behind."
Gondolas
Moving Gondolas are being assed to Climatizer and Lava Siphon in an effort to counteract the dangers of the new POI locations.
" These moving gondola carts will provide a confined safe passageway for you and your squad across the threatening lava and the POIs."
Landslide
Train Yard has been demolished and left with a simplified layout that offers a more open playing field to those looking to attack this area.
" Landslide is still considered a POI on the map and contains almost the same amount of loot as Train Yard did, but it’s a bit more scattered and spread out."
In addition to this, there's going to be a brighter "skybox" (blue skies) over World's Edge in an effort to reflect the change in the time of day as well as bring back the older lighting to the map. Both the Overlook POI and the west of the Geyser POI are going to be changed slightly to introduce new rotation routes that should make these more viable drop locations.
When Will We Find Out More?
At the moment, all we know is that World's Edge is changing in Apex Legends Season 10. In the Emergence Cinematic Trailer, we saw a little bit of World's Edge but it was hardly reflective of what we're going to see in-game.
Thankfully, there's a Gameplay Trailer due to arrive at 08:00 PST / 11:00 EST / 16:00 BST on July 26th. This should give us a better look at what World's Edge is going to look like going forward and how Seer is going to play. You can keep an eye on the embedded video below for more:
World's Edge IS Changing In Season 10
Following the latest Stories from the Outlands short, Respawn Entertainment updated us with the following information:
" With microdrones and an artist's eye, Seer spots opportunities that other Legends might miss, and seizes them in the most beautiful way he can."
New Weapon: Rampage LMG
" Meet Rampart's newest invention, the Rampage LMG, with a surprising source of firepower."
World's Edge Map Update
" World's Edge is on the brink of some major changes...stay tuned."
Annoyingly, this is all we have to go on regarding the Season 10 map changes at the moment. It isn't much, but at least we know what map is going to be getting a refurb?
When Do We Find Out More?
You'll be pleased to know we're just a handful of hours away from learning more about Apex Legends Season 10 and the map changes that are going to be made to World's Edge.
EA PLAY Live is scheduled to start at 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST on July 22nd and Respawn Entertainment are making sure Apex Legends is a big part of this. In fact, Respawn's Senior Social Media Manager is going to be co-hosting the event!
It's rumoured to be around 40 minutes long, so we're only expecting to see a new Cinematic Trailer and a Gameplay Trailer. However, this should be more than enough to give us an idea of what to expect in Season 10 following the map changes to World's Edge.
When Is Season 10 Even Out?
Apex Legends Season 10 is due to release on August 3rd. We don't know much else about the time of day this will be dropping, but we can imagine it will follow the same schedule as previous Apex Legends updates.
We could see preloading for the update start ahead of August 3rd, but if not the update itself should be available by 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST. For now, though, we still have the Thrillseekers Event to keep us occupied. You can check out everything you need to know about that below:
