Apex Legends is undoubtedly one of the best Battle Royales at the moment, with a take on the genre that is yet to get old. Season 16 is now on the horizon, and the Spellbound Collection Event is here to celebrate, with tons of new skins and much more coming.
Up until now, most players have not been able to host a private match in Apex Legends. This left you unable to easily compete with your friends, but now anyone can host a game or tournament. Here's everything you need to know to get started.

What are Private Matches in Apex Legends?
Private matches are a great way to get some practice in outside of ranked or pubs. They allow you to invite your friends to your game, and control who can participate. Fans have been asking for this feature for some time, and Respawn has finally delivered.
Players can now invite up to 60 friends (20 teams) and 5 observers to a private match of Apex Legends. As expected, no XP will be earned in these games, and you'll need crossplay to participate, as well as an internet connection as usual.
Private matches will arrive with the Spellbound Collection event on January 10th, 2023. Whether you'll be able to play the new control game mode in a private match is unclear. So far, only Battle Royale has been confirmed as a private mode.
How to Create and Join Private Matches
Once Private Matches arrive, there will be a menu that allows players to create or join an Apex Legends Private Match without having a Tournament Admin Code.
Here’s everything you have to do:
- Launch the game after January 10.
- Press the game mode select box.
- Navigate to the Private Match tab with RB on Xbox and R1 on PlayStation.
- Press Create Match to create your own custom lobby.
- Enter someone’s Tournament Participant Code to join another Private Match.
It's not yet clear whether there is a minimum number of players required for a private game of Apex Legends. We should know more once Repsawn releases their FAQs closer to the Spellbound Collection Event’s arrival.
