Microsoft to implement Xbox Game Pass Family Plan
According to Windows Central, its sources claim that this new Xbox Game Pass Family Plan will allow multiple users in one household to access the service. This would be similar to Spotify and Nintendo Switch Online's family plans.
Like other family plans, the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan would work in tiers, with the highest tier providing access for five players, giving all of them access to the entire library.
“According to trusted sources familiar with Microsoft‘s efforts, we can now confirm that Xbox is moving ahead with an Xbox Game Pass Family Plan, which should be set to launch sometime this year,” the website reported.
Although Windows Central claimed that it would come later this year, a specific release date for the family plan was not stated.
Additionally, the report doesn't make clear whether there will be separate family plans for PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass or if will have an all-encompassing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate family plan. The same can be said for pricing as it's also unknown.
Xbox Game Pass' effect on the gaming market
Xbox Game Pass has been a huge staple in the gaming market. Similar to the Netflix subscription-based model, the Xbox Game Pass allows users to play games from a huge catalog for just a relatively low monthly fee.
The pass grants access to hundreds of games, with some of them including lucrative Xbox exclusives such as the more recent Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 titles. Multiple plans give you games across PC, Xbox Consoles, or the cloud on mobile devices, featuring all of the best Xbox games from Microsoft upon starting the subscription.
This has forced others like Sony to follow suit with their new PlayStation Plus tier system, which offers access to PlayStation's library of games alongside multiple benefits. This service is set to launch in June.
