WrestleMania is the greatest event on the wrestling calendar every year, or at least that’s the way it is billed. However, outside of WWE there have been plenty of stellar shows in 2017.

The independent wrestling world has never been more popular or filled with talented workers, and as a result the number of stacked cards has skyrocketed, making this award nearly impossible to narrow to a top five, nevermind find a winner.

Before we do get to our top five, let’s cover a few honorable mentions. This award was voted for by all of RealSport’s wrestling writers, giving us a lot of different opinions and bringing up a lot of very good shows.

Evolve 81 got some love for the incredible Keith Lee vs Donovan Dijak match as well as Drew Galloway against Lio Rush and Zack Sabre Jr vs Michael Elgin. New Japan’s Best of Super Juniors tournament very nearly made the top five thanks to a remarkable final between Will Ospreay and Kushida. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s three-day Battle of Los Angeles tournament, also featuring a stellar Lee vs Dijak match, came close, and WWNLive’s Orlando Supershow on WrestleMania weekend rounds out those that came oh-so near to a spot on the top five.
