WWE is on the road to SummerSlam and the sports game season has already kicked off.

So it was only a matter of time before news about WWE 2K20 came out.

Despite 2K Sports focused on delivering another successful installment of their NBA franchise, news has dropped about the game to whet the appetite of fans ahead of the expected annual grapple-fest that is WWE's 2K series.

WWE 2K20 Release Date

This year's WWE game is scheduled for release on 22 October. This is more than 2 weeks later in the year than WWE 2K19 was. This will be a disappointment for fans, but given the busy nature of sports game season a little more time between the release of FIFA & WWE which is nice. However, delaying this release does back it up into the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare game.

There is no clear window in the fall for WWE, but we should trust 2K here and be willing to wait a little longer.

WWE 2K20 Cover Superstars

After ex-TNA & NJPW star AJ Styles graced the cover last year the assumption was that WWE would go down the more typical route of a homegrown and well-known star like John Cena or Randy Orton. Well, they sort of did that, but also carried on breaking the mold.

This year's game will be fronted by WWE megastar Roman Reigns and their most recent breakout sensation Becky Lynch.

Lynch becomes the first woman to make the cover of a WWE 2K game, but she is used to firsts. Lynch claimed victory in the very first women's match to headline WrestleMania this year, beating both Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey.

“My career has been about breaking barriers and doing what nobody else has done before. Being the first female Superstar on the cover of a WWE 2K video game is no exception,” said Becky Lynch.

Reigns' inclusion is not nearly as surprising as he has been the focal point of WWE programming for years now.

WWE 2K20 Trailer

The new trailer for WWE 2K20 plays off the NFL 100 commercial a little, but also plays on Lynch's ground-breaking year with the company.

The shattering of glass is usually only reserved for a certain Rattlesnake, but Lynch's surge to stardom over the last 12 months has seen her bust through the WrestleMania glass ceiling, so it only seems appropriate for her to crash the very stuffy party in her now-trademark leather jacket.

WWE 2K20 Editions

As with any game these days, just buying the game isn't enough. WWE 2K20 promises a Deluxe Edition as well as a Collector's EditionBoth will come with in-game bonuses including extra playable superstars like Chyna, Hulk Hogan, Mankind, and The Rock.

Players will gain access to all unlockables immediately with their extra edition. While the Kickstart extra will give you a leg up in MyCAREER by boosting your MyPLAYER ratings and attributes with extra points to spend and an extra 25,000 VC.

There are more bonuses yet to be announced. While the Collectors Edition will also include physical collectibles and additional bonus digital content.

WWE 2K20 New Features

As ever with 2K, new features are yet to drip out. Last year saw Showcase mode return with Daniel Bryan's story, while a gameplay emphasis was put on ladder and cage matches. Where will WWE 2K20 go?

The official website says "WWE 2K20 will feature key gameplay improvements, streamlined controls, and the most fun and creatively expansive entry in the franchise to date".
