With the Lich King at the forefront, Azeroth's heroes will come back from crossing the Dark Portal after thwarting Illidan Stormrage and Kil'jaeden's plans and venture into Azeroth's frozen foreign land of Northrend in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.
The new expansion will contain tons of new features such as the first new class, the Death Knight, new Raids, tons of new content, and more.
That begs the question: When does WotLK Classic pre-patch release? Here's what we know so far.
LATEST - Joyous Journeys XP Buff hits TBC Classic servers
Blizzard Entertainment has introduced the Joyous Journeys buff to the Burning Crusade Classic Servers, giving players 50% additional XP across the board.
With the buff, players will be able to either begin or continue their pre-WotLK Classic prep as it'll help them level any alts prior to the new expansion's release, or if in a Classic Fresh start realm, help bridge the gap and allow them to catch up to everybody else much easier.
This Joyous Journeys buff, according to Blizzard, is beginning a few weeks before the WotLK Classic pre-patch, which means that the pre-patch might just be around the corner.

When does WotLK Classic pre-patch release?
As of right now, much like its release date, WoTLK Classic's pre-patch has yet to receive a release date.
But, based on the timeline of Burning Crusade Classic's initial reveal to its pre-patch release, we can make some guesses as to when WoTLK Classic's pre-patch will be live.
Burning Crusade Classic was originally shown off in February 2021 and its pre-patch went live in late May 2021. This means that we can expect the same to happen for WotLK Classic. The Lich King's expansion was initially revealed on April 2021 which means this would put its pre-patch in late July or early August.
It's also worth noting that thus far, in WotLK Classic's timeline, the game has yet to receive a release date and it's been nearly three months. Contrast this with Burning Crusade Classic's release date, which was revealed in early May 2021—four months after its initial reveal—it could very well mean that WotLK Classic is due for a release date soon, which means that pre-patch would soon follow.
The same can be said for the alignment of announcement to beta as although WotLK Classic's beta is a little bit more tightly knit, just like Burning Crusade Classic, it also unveiled beta testing a month after its initial reveal.

What is coming in the WotLK Classic pre-patch?
Like other pre-patches in World of Warcraft's past, players can expect to experience some of the smaller details and features of the new expansion.
These include the new talent trees, new abilities, the Death Knight hero class, and things of the like.
Players won't be able to head to Northrend quite just yet or begin leveling to level 80 during the pre-patch, but they will be able to test out several of the aforementioned changes.
Additionally, players can possibly look out for a Wrath of the Lich King exclusive event during the pre-patch where the Scourge begins invading the capitals of Stormwind and Orgrimmar. In the zombie-like invasion, players have to defend their cities in preparation for the new expansion.
However, chances are that this event will most likely not happen again as it seems like it was truly a once in a lifetime event due to it occurring during Hallow's End.
