Pro14 Preview: Glasgow V Munster

Munster heads to the Scottish city of Glasgow to take on the Warriors in Round 4 of the Pro14.

Team Overviews

Dave Rennie’s side sits in second place in Conference A with three wins from three. Glasgow will look to improve on their one-point victory over the Cardiff Blues in round three.

Munster are at the summit of Conference A having won all their matches so far. Munster is the leading try scoring team in the competition having crossed the line 16 times and they will want to increase that record as they travel to Scotland for this mouthwatering clash.

Key aspects

Glasgow’s discipline

The Scottish side’s discipline was poor in their Round 3 match against the Cardiff Blues. They conceded nine penalties – mistakes which essentially kept Cardiff in the game – and almost cost them their win. Although Munster fly-half Tyler Bleyendaal hasn’t been the most reliable from the boot this season (he is kicking only 46%) the Warriors still won’t want to give him the opportunity to benefit from their disciplinary misdemeanours.

Munsters relentless offence

As aforesaid, the Southern Irish team has the highest amount of tries scored in the competition so far boasting a number of 16. That’s more than 5 tries per game, a ridiculous number when you are playing at this level against defences that are supposed to be among the best in the world. However, the Limerick-based team did play two of the weaker sides in the Cheetahs and Treviso.

Glasgow defence

The Glasgow defence has been the strongest to date in the league. Glasgow has only conceded two tries so far from three games. This defence is going to need to be as strong as ever if Glasgow is to hold out the Munster attack. It is this battle of the irresistible force versus the immovable object that will be the highlight of this contest.

It will be a hot contest on Friday night as the best offence and the best defence in the league go head to head. In this case, I think defence will be the victor and therefore Glasgow will get their fourth win of the season on home turf. Mark your calendars for this one.
