“The first NHL goal” is one of those special moments that every hockey player remembers forever.
We are three weeks into the new NHL season and have already seen several rookies score their first NHL goal and make their mark on the league.
Here is a look at five of the more memorable “first NHL goals” scored so far in the 2017/18 season.
Jake DeBrusk – Boston Bruins
On October 5th, 2017, Jake DeBrusk, the son of former NHL tough guy Louie DeBrusk made a wonderful first impression.
In his first NHL game, Jake scored a beautiful goal against the Nashville Predators in the second period. On the goal, DeBrusk showed great determination by driving to the net and finished the play with a nifty forehand-backhand move on Pekka Rinne.
What a way it was for the 21-year-old to get his first in the NHL.
It sure made his father proud as Louie couldn’t help but shed a few tears after watching his son score.
Jake is 22 NHL goals away from tying his father, can he do it by the end of this season?
Alex DeBrincat – Chicago Blackhawks
Few players can say they scored first NHL goal at the Bell Center against one of the best goaltenders in the NHL but Alexander DeBrincat can!
The 19-year-old did just that on October 10th, 2017, against Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens.
The goal resulted from a turnover where Chicago Blackhawks’ forward Patrick Sharp gobbled up the puck and made a wonderful pass to DeBrincat for one-timer that beat Carey Price low blocker-side.
DeBrincat had a night to remember as he added an assist for a two point night to help the Blackhawks beat the Canadiens 3-0 that evening.
Martin Frk – Detroit Red Wings
October 5th, 2017, Martin Frk scored his first NHL goal in his third regular season game with the Detroit Red Wings against the Minnesota Wild.
On a what seemed like a harmless offensive zone entry by teammate Anthony Mantha, Martin Frk sneaked in as a trailer onto an unsuspecting Minnesota Wild defense. He then received a pass from Mantha, used the defense as screen and unloaded a powerful slapshot that beat Devan Dubnyk between the five-hole.
Not a bad way for the young Red Wing to score his first NHL goal!
Alex Tuch – Vegas Golden Knights
Alex Tuch scored his first NHL goal on highlight reel play that showcased his great hockey IQ and individual skill.
Tuch stripped the puck from the Boston Bruins’ player, then chased it down, goes in on a breakaway and “tucks” the puck right under the bar for a beautiful finish on goaltender Tuukka Rask.
This was definitely one of the more impressive first NHL goals this season – an unassisted goal created from a great individual effort.
The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Bruins 3-1 and added another win to start their wonderful inaugural season in the NHL.
Jesper Bratt – New Jersey Devils
October 7th, 2017 was a special night for Jesper Bratt, the 2016 sixth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils.
He scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game, against the Colorado Avalanche.
It happened on the power play where Bratt received a nice cross-seam pass from teammate Taylor Hall. After receiving the pass, the 19-year-old patiently out-waits the goaltender before unloading a wrist shot just above the shoulder to score top corner.
Bratt has been impressive for the Devils so far this season, with seven points in nine games.
The New Jersey Devils would definitely like to have Bratt score a few more goals like this, especially after being one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL in 2016/17.
Christian Djoos – Washington Capitals
Like others on this list, Christian Djoos of the Washington Capitals also scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game.
It happened on October 11th, 2017, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Capitals took advantage of a sloppy line change where Djoos jumped in from the blue line and was wide open for a clean pass from Lars Eller. Djoos capitalized on the chance and beat two-time Stanley Cup champion Matt Murray on the short side with a blistering one-timer.
