Australian driver Jack Doohan will get his first taste of F1 machinery on Friday when he replaces Esteban Ocon for FP1 at the 2022 Mexican Grand Prix.

Doohan saw his chances of an F1 future boosted earlier in the season when fellow Alpine junior driver Oscar Piastri left the setup to take up Daniel Ricciardo's seat at McLaren for the 2023 season.

The Aussie will now compete in his first official F1 session, replacing Esteban Ocon in the second Alpine to complete the team's mandatory junior running in FP1 sessions this season.

With Jack Doohan set to take to the track on Friday, here is the lowdown on his career to date.

Who is Jack Doohan?

Motorsport pedigree runs in Jack Doohan's family with the young Aussie being the son of legendary five-time motorcycle champion, Mick Doohan.

The 19-year-old started his single-seater journey aged 15, where he competed in the British, Italian and German F4 championships.

2019 brought about a season in the F3 Asian Championship, where Doohan snatched five victories and finished second in the standings.

Two seasons in Formula 3 followed with Jack Doohan building on a tough debut campaign by finishing second in the 2021 F3 standings, only behind Red Bull junior Dennis Hauger.

It is in F2 that Doohan's stock has really climbed though, with the teenager tied for P4 in the standings with Jehan Daruvala and Enzo Fittipaldi heading into the final round at Abu Dhabi.

A future in F1 beckons for Jack Doohan and an FP1 session at the Mexican Grand Prix will give him his first taste of life at the pinnacle of motorsport.
