Cerundolo went one better than his Buenos Aires 2021 final defeat to fellow countryman Diego Schwartzman earlier this year, beating Sebastian Baez in straight sets in the final of the Bastad tournament in Sweden to take his first-ever career title.

The 24-year-old was beaten in straight sets by Brazilian Thiago Monteiro at the French Open earlier this year (6-3, 6-4, 6-3) and struggled to make an impression against the legendary Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon earlier in the summer, so will hope to go well at the US Open on Monday.
