The Premier League and English Football League have announced that no football fixtures will take place this weekend following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

The National League has also announced that there will be no football taking place across their competitions this weekend.

Premier League & EFL Postpone Fixtures

The announcement came on Friday morning, with the Premier League the first to announce the news, with the EFL quickly following suit.

This decision came shortly after the government posted guidance confirming that there is no need for businesses to close or sporting events to be cancelled during the national mourning period.

However, following a meeting on Friday morning, the major governing bodies in British football came to the conclusion that there will be no professional football played in England this weekend.

Premier League Statement

The Premier League released the following statement following the announcement:

"At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend's Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening's game.
