Askey's York City departure: As it happened

John Askey was initially drafted into York City in November of 2021 to temporarily assist Steve Watson while assistant manager Micky Cummings was suspended.

Watson would be removed from his post soon after with Askey taking charge of York City for the rest of the 2021/22 season.

What followed was immediate success as York City climbed from mid-table into the playoff places before securing promotion back to the National League.

An initially rapid start to the 2022/23 National League season has lifted York City into the top half, but the Minstermen are now winless in six with John Askey taking the hit as a result.

There could be more than meets the eye to this story though with reports surfacing that Askey has fallen out with chairman Glen Henderson.
