The NBA Draft Lottery is an annual event in which the 14 non-playoff teams discover the order in which they will make their first-round picks.
The lottery was first introduced in 1985, with the format tweaked across the years in order to ensure that there is a fair process in awarding the picks.
Since 1990 there has been a weighted lottery system applied to the draft lottery in order to ensure that the teams with the worst records have a better chance of obtaining a higher pick.
How will the 2022 NBA Draft Lottery work?
The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery will work on a weighted lottery system, in which each of the 14 non-playoff teams will be placed into a lottery machine in order to determine the first 14 picks of the 1st round of the 2022 NBA Draft.
The odds for the No.1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft are as follows:

The 2022 NBA draft selections for the remainder of the first round (15-30) are decided upon the conclusion of the regular season, with the picks awarded by reverse order of regular-season record. This format continues into the second round of the draft for picks 31-60.
This format ensures that the lower-ranked sides in the 2022 season will be awarded a higher pick than those at the top end of the standings. Each team will be awarded one pick in the first round of the draft, and one in the second.

The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery will take place on Tuesday, May 17th in Chicago.
The NBA Draft will take place the following month, on Tuesday, June 23rd at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.
