Resident Evil 8 Platforms: PS4 and Xbox One Versions Confirmed

Tonight we got a lot of new details for Resident Evil 8 during the RE Showcase, including gameplay, a release date, and which platforms it will be launching on.

Last Gen Versions Confirmed

When Resident Evil 8 was announced it was revealed that the game would be coming to both PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

ITS BACK ON: Resident Evil 8 will now launch on last gen consoles, despite being originally cancelled.

Eventually, Capcom announced that the last-gen versions would be cancelled due to them not being powerful enough to run the game without huge sacrifices being made.

Now, during the RE Showcase it was announced that the last-gen ports are back on.

The game will now release on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.


It has been confirmed that Resident Evil 8 will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

Resident Evil 8 Release Date

The release date for Resident Evil 8 was announced during the RE Showcase.

Resident Evil 8 will launch on May 7th 2021 and will release worldwide across all platforms.

Pre-orders are available now on all platforms.



A new trailer was released for Resident Evil 8, showing off the gameplay for the first time, including the return of The Merchant.

Resident Evil Infinite Darkness


Last year a new 3D CGI animation filmed was announced titled "Resident Evil Infinite Darkness".

The film will feature Leon and Claire teaming up for the first time since 2008s Resident Evil: Degeneration.

Infinite Darkness is set a few years after the events of RE4 and will see the team caught up in another zombie outbreak.

It will be releasing worldwide on Netflix, but no release date has been given except that it will be in 2021.


There was no news regarding the new live-action movie or manga series that are confirmed to be happening.

The live-action movie was filmed last year and wrapped up filming before the end of 2020.
