As the Día de Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, celebrations draw near, Nike has revealed a new "Somos Familia" sneakers and apparel collection in recognition of one of Mexico's most important traditions.
"Somos Familia" is described as the unbreakable bond between families and their memories which Nike has portrayed through bespoke illustrations and graphics across its upcoming Día de Muertos capsule.
The range includes a selection of tees and shirts as well as new Air Force 1s, Jordan 1s, Air Max 1s, and a pair of what we feel as some of the best Nike Dunks we've seen as of late.
As a result, we feel there's definitely a lot to look forward to from the "Somos Familia" collection, regardless of your sneakers preference. With that in mind, here's everything we know so far about the capsule's release date...
Nike Día de Muertos Somos Familia Collection Release Date
According to Nike, the "Somos Familia" collection is out now as of 22 October 2022 in preparation for the Día de Muertos celebrations to commence in November.
However, the Air Force 1s and Dunk Highs hit the shelves slightly later on 26 October based on their listings on Nike's SNKRS launch page.
Regardless, the Day of the Dead collection looks to be available to buy right now if you're interested in any of the apparel or sneakers. If you're still unsure though, then perhaps a closer look at the designs might change your mind...
Nike Día de Muertos Somos Familia Collection Designs
As touched on, the "Somos Familia" collection is rooted in family values; however, there are several nods to the Día de Muertos in each of the designs which we feel make the shoes some of the best sneakers for fall around.
For instance, the Nike Dunks combine suede with embroidered detailing to capture both salt and water, two elements commonly associated with Mexican ofrendas.

+ 7The Air Max 1s are then themed around Cempasúchil, the marigold flower which is said to guide the way to the ofrendas. The result is an orange a cream design featuring a Cempasúchil pattern around the mudguards.
click to enlarge + 7The Air Force 1s then take a slightly different approach as Nike uses their design to reference pan de muerto, the traditional Día de Muertos bread that is said to symbolise the cycle of life and death.
click to enlarge + 7To round off the sneakers, Nike has also introduced this Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT inspired by the candles traditionally placed around the ofrenda. The sneakers combine suede textures with marigold flower graphics in the Swooshes.
click to enlarge + 7Finally, a selection of matching tees and a shirt has been revealed to complete the "Somos Familia" collection. Each one features a different Día de Muertos theme, but they all utilise the same fall colour palette as the sneakers.

The sneakers cost $140 in adult sizing upon their arrival alongside the accompanying apparel.
It doesn't appear as though smaller and presumably cheaper kid's sizes have been released at this moment in time, although this may change over the coming weeks.
