New Operator - Thunderbird

It wouldn't be a Rainbow Six Siege season without a new Operator, right?

Mina "Thunderbird" Sky is going to be the next Operator to join Rainbow Six Siege's roster of characters. She's a helicopter pilot, narratively, and will operate as a healer in-game. Below, we have a rundown of her loadout:

  • Movement: 3 Speed
  • Primary Weapon: Spear.308 / SPAS-15
  • Secondary Weapon: Q-929 / BEARING-9
  • Throwable: Impact Grenade / C4
  • Gadget: 3x Kona Station

You might be thinking this is a little bit aggressive for a Defender with a Support focus, and you're not wrong. A loadout like this could make her one of the best Operators going forwards. However, we can imagine that she will find herself being balanced sooner rather than later if she's too overpowered.

KONA ANYONE? - This can heal both Teammates and Enemy Operators!

Her Kona Station gadget is interesting though as it appears to heal anyone in its' radius. This means it can work well for camping Defenders but could be exploited by Attackers if placed poorly.

New Map Reworks - Favela

Favela is the next map getting a rework and Ubisoft are making sure that this is a little more drastic than the Border rework we saw last season.

If you've played the Test Servers, you might already know a bit more about what's coming. However, for those who haven't... Here's what's going on with Favela.

  • Favela is now a night-based map, with Fireworks exploding overhead to offer bursts of brighter light;
  • Most of the external destructibility has been removed from the map;
  • Meth Lab has been replaced by crypto-mining Coin Room;
  • Attackers' choke points reworked;
  • Defenders' roaming options reevaluated;
  • Internal colours toned down/muted;

Operator & Weapon Balancing Changes

The new Operator is great and all, but what about the existing ones? As always, Ubisoft is tweaking the existing Operators and weapons in an effort to keep things a little more balanced.

In terms of Operator balancing changes, Vigil and Ash are getting nerfed a little bit in an effort to balance their damage output. Finka, Zero, and Melusi are all getting tweaks too. The only Operator who looks like they're getting buffed is Nokk and these changes are still "Test Server Only". It looks like Thunderbird is going to be going into Rainbow Six Siege Y6S2 strong.

In terms of weapon balancing changes, the Bearing-9 and SMG-12 are the only two weapons receiving changes. The Bearing-9 is receiving a minor buff, but the SMG-12's changes are quite drastic.

Full Patch Notes?

At the moment, we don't have any finalized Patch Notes from Ubisoft regarding Rainbow Six Siege Y6S2. This doesn't mean we're completely out of the loop, as we have the Y6S2 Designer's Notes to look over ahead of the full Patch Notes' release.

This highlights some of the key changes that Ubisoft is making going into the next season, but present information that is subject to change.

STILL NO NOKK CHANGES? - Ubisoft are spending a lot of time working on this one

For the most part, though... The changes discussed in the Designer's Notes often continue over to the full update's release. At the moment, only the Nokk Operator rework is being specified as a "Test Servers Only" change.
