The last week of group stage action was crucial for several teams in the V10 R-League.
From “lose and you’re out” scenarios to battles for a ticket straight to the semi-final, every match had something at stake, and every match had some cracking racing!
Here’s the recap of all this week’s action.
Williams overcome Fordzilla to claim final playoff place
Williams secured the third and final playoff spot in Group B thanks to a do-or-die win over Fordzilla.
Neither side covered themselves in glory in this chaotic Round 5 clash, with errors, spins and collisions dominating most of the action. The team race in Spa was particularly action-packed, with multiple incidents taking place across the first lap.
Fordzilla’s aggressive and careless style once again seemed to unhinge their overall pace, but Williams will also want to rethink their strategy if they plan on reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
Team Redline secure Group A top spot after close fight with Aston Martin
Team Redline nailed down their place at the top of Group A and an automatic place in the semi-finals with an important 2-1 win over Aston Martin.
Despite heroics from Aston Martin’s star man Lucas Blakeley, Redline were simply too tricky for the British outfit. Michal Smidl was ruthlessly efficient in the Spa team race, while Jeffrey Rietveld’s smart driving in Monza ensured their victory.
Red Bull miss out on playoffs following R8G stalemate
Red Bull has fallen short of reaching this season's playoffs after a stunning 2-2 draw against minnows R8G.
Having taken an early 2-0 lead with some classy driving in Mugello, the Bulls threw it all away in Silverstone. Thomas Carroll could only watch on in horror as his late spin in the relay race allowed Erhan Jajovski to cross the line unchallenged, while Thomas Petitjean dominated the team race for R8G after Nestor Garcia’s first lap error.
McLaren Shadow vs JAESA Suzuki
The final matchup of the week saw McLaren Shadow needing two points to secure the top spot in Group B. They ended up getting all four.
It was another commanding display from James Baldwin, Isaac Gillissen, and Elvin Smith, as they took control of the match early and never relinquished their grip.
A pitlane error from Kamil Pawlowski in the first relay race spelled trouble for JAESA and the Italian side could not find a way past what appears to be the title favourite for this season.
Quarter-Finals set
With the group stage now wrapped up, the Quarter-Finals are now set up, and they feature two mouthwatering encounters.
On Monday 17 May Aston Martin will take on Williams Esports. Fans can watch the match in its entirety on BT Sport 2 at 8pm BST and ESPN3 at 6pm EST.
On Tuesday 18 May BMW face off against YAS Heat. Fans can watch the match in its entirety on BT Sport 3 at 8pm BST and ESPN3 at 6pm EST.
Either Aston Martin or Williams will take on McLaren Shadow on Wednesday 19 May, with the action kicking off on BT Sport 3 at 5pm BST and ESPN3 at 6pm EST.
The second Semi-Final will see Group A winners Redline take on BMW or YAS Heat. You can watch that match on Thursday 20 May on BT Sport 3 at 8pm BST and ESPN3 at 6pm EST.
