Quiz: How well do you know the Brazilian Grand Prix?

F1 returns to one of its favourite venues, Brazil, this weekend. So how much do you know about South America's F1 race?

A circuit popular with fans, drivers, and pundits alike, the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, better known as Interlagos, has been a mainstay of the calendar for many years.

Traditionally a race that came earlier in the year, even hosting the season opener on more than one occasion, Brazil has more recently moved to the end of the calendar, and has become a regular host for title deciding races.

But how much do you know about South America’s sole representative on the F1 calendar?

  1. 1 Which popular Brazilian won the very first world championship Brazilian Grand Prix in 1973?

    1. Carlos Pace
    2. Ayrton Senna
    3. Emerson Fittipaldi
    4. Nelson Piquet

    Emerson Fittipaldi

Argentine Carlos Reutemann had won the Brazilian Grand Prix in 1972, but this did not count towards the world championship. It was Emerson Fittipaldi who won the first and second races once the Brazilian Round became an official part of the championship. Carlos Pace (for whom the Interlagos circuit is now named) won in 1975.

  2. 2 How many circuits have played host to the Brazilian Grand Prix?

    1. 1
    2. 2
    3. 3
    4. 4

Interlagos hosted the first Brazilian Grand Prix, but would later be replaced by Jacarepaguá (now the Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet) for a number of years before returning to the calendar in a revamped form.

  3. 3 Which driver has the most number of wins in Brazil?

    1. Alain Prost
    2. Michael Schumacher
    3. Emerson Fittipaldi
    4. Carlos Reutemann

    It's Prost!

Much to the disappointment of Ayrton Senna's hordes of Brazilian fans, it's actually his arch rival Alain Prost who holds the record for most wins in Brazil with six.

  4. 4 Michael and Ralf Schumacher shared the front row of a Formula 1 grid on many occasions throughout their careers, and it was in Brazil that they accomplished this for the first time, but what year was this?

    1. 2000
    2. 2001
    3. 2002
    4. 2003

    It was in 2001

This would mark the first of many front rows lockouts for the German siblings.

  5. 5 How many Brazilians have won their home race?

    1. 3
    2. 4
    3. 5
    4. 6

Brazilian fans have been fortunate to see five of their hometown heroes win in front of them. Emerson Fittipaldi, Carlos Pace, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, and Felipe Massa have all stood atop the podium at their home race.

  6. 6 Both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button won world titles at Interlagos, but they didn't do it with a win. Which position did both drivers finish in to win their respective titles?

    1. 3rd
    2. 4th
    3. 5th
    4. 6th

Both Hamilton and Button finished fifth in Brazil to claim their first world championships.

  7. 7 Who did Lewis Hamilton pass in the last corner of 2008's race to take the title in dramatic fashion?

    1. Timo Glock
    2. Jarno Trulli
    3. Mark Webber
    4. Sebastian Vettel

"Is that Glock?! Is that Glock going slowly?!"

Those were the words of Martin Brundle in commentary, barely able to keep his excitement in check as Hamilton took the place he needed to become world champion.

  8. 8 Sebastian Vettel rounded out his most dominant season in 2013 by establishing a new record for consecutive victories by winning in Brazil, but how many races did he win in a row (including Brazil)?

    1. 6
    2. 7
    3. 8
    4. 9

An incredible run saw Vettel win nice races between Belgium and Brazil to win his fourth title in emphatic fashion, over 150 points clear of his nearest rival.
