2022 F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Qualifying Results

Max Verstappen claimed pole position for Saturday's F1 Sprint Race in an eventful Friday evening Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying session.

F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Q1 Results

It was a Ferrari 1-2 in Q1 at the Red Bull Ring as the Scuderia showed early promise in Qualifying. Fernando Alonso displayed plenty of pace in his Alpine, while both Haas cars finished in the top ten.

Daniel Ricciardo was knocked out in Q1 as teammate Lando Norris finished in P8. Both Aston Martin cars were eliminated in Q1 as they struggled with track limits, while Zhou Guanyu and Nicholas Latifi also failed to make it out.

F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Q2 Results

Mercedes were mixing with Ferrari and Red Bull in Q2 with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both there or thereabouts at the top of the timing screens. Sergio Perez overcame a late scare to book his place in Q3.

Both Alpine and Haas drivers progressed to Q3 following impressive Q2 sessions, but there was disappointment for AlphaTauri as Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda were both eliminated.

Eliminated in Q2:

F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Q3 Results

Pole position looked a real possibility for one of the Mercedes drivers heading into Q3, but the Silver Arrows' optimism rapidly turned to despair as both Hamilton and Russell found the barriers, bringing out two red flags.

The top three were separated by less than a tenth when the chequered flag was waved, but it was Verstappen who pipped the Ferraris to pole position in front of the Orange Army.
