PlayStation buy Haven Studios to work on "AAA Multiplayer Experience"

PlayStation has had a rather split focus over the last few years. Where their first-party has largely focused on cinematic 3rd person action-adventure games, the recent acquisition of Bungie and rumours of rolling PS Now into PS Plus hint at a very different future.

The recent purchase of Haven Studios is just another step into a strange future for the brand. Here's what we know about their latest purchase so far.

PlayStation buy Haven Studios

In some rather surprising news, PlayStation have just bought another studio called Haven Studios after buying Bungie mere months ago. This is likely spurred on by Microsoft acquisitions like Activision Blizzard and Bethesda.

Haven are a pretty small studio right now, only being active for a year. This must mean the team are pretty impressive to grab Sony's eye so quickly.

What does this mean?

We don't know all that much about what they're working on yet but, according to the blog post about it, they are working on a "AAA Multiplayer Experience"

In the blog, the team say:

"Our first new IP for PlayStation is on track to deliver a AAA multiplayer experience with a vision to build a systemic and evolving world focused on freedom, thrill, and playfulness that will keep players entertained and engaged for years."

This hints at a live service title with tonnes of shifting ideas and events. This likely takes some inspiration from Destiny and Fortnite as they've managed to stay relevant and fresh years after their initial launch. We don't know what's going in the studio yet but we do know they've been working with Sony for a year and seem to be on track for launch - a good sign.
