Earlier this year Microsoft purchased ZeniMax for a massive $7.5 billion.
ZeniMax is the parent company of many developers, including Bethesda who are the creators of The Elder Scrolls series.
The ZeniMax Deal
Earlier this year Microsoft purchased ZeniMax in a deal worth reportedly $7.5 billion.
This move has secured many top studios to be under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella.
Studios include Arkane Studios, best known for the Dishonered series, and the upcoming Deathloop game.
id Software, best known for the DOOM and Quake series'.
MachineGames who took over the Wolfenstein reboot.
Tango Gameworks, creators of The Evil Within and the upcoming Ghostwire: Tokyo.
And of course Bethesda, best known for The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
Because of this deal, many fans have assumed that titles such as The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 will become Xbox exclusive, releasing on only Xbox Series X|S and PC.
While Phil Spencer hasn't confirmed whether this is true or not, if Microsoft want to get ahead of the 'console war', having such huge titles as exclusives would be a good way to do it.
Whether this would be the right move or not, only Phil Spencer and the team at Xbox know.
Keeping them exclusive would definitely sell more consoles, but having them multi-platform would generate more profit.
It is widely known that, especially in the early years of a consoles lifecycle, very little profit is made from the sale of a console due to expensive manufacturing costs.
Sony Leaks TES 6
In a blog post which allows players to vote for the best titles of the year, Sony's own version of The Game Awards, they may have leaked that The Elder Scrolls 6 won't be an Xbox exclusive.
Towards the bottom of the polls is the "Most Anticipated" category, which features many games we know are coming such as Resident Evil 8 and Gran Turismo 7.
But it also mentions one title that has yet to be announced, The Elder Scrolls 6.
While it is a given that the game is likely in development right now, as mentioned earlier, it hasn't been confirmed whether this will be an Xbox exclusive or not.
This news could confirm that it isn't.
Bethesda has hinted that its big titles, such as TES6 and Fallout 5, won't be exclusives, instead they may run best on Xbox or be a timed exclusive.
Sony is known for its timed exclusives, with games such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake being snapped up as a timed exclusive.
A timed exclusive could also work in Microsoft's favour because it would leave the options as wait a year or two, or buy an Xbox.
With the Xbox Series S being very affordable, this move could help sell a lot of those consoles to players unable to wait to get their hands on the latest entry in the franchise.
