The Nintendo Switch has been out in the world for quite a while now and its age is starting to show. If recent news is right, we could see hints at the next console as early as next year. Here's what we know so far.

A New Nintendo Switch Console May be on the way

In a recent episode of Digital Foundry Direct Weekly, they spoke about the recent news of Breath of the Wild 2's delay. Alongside commiserating its delay, they talked about the brief gameplay shown and put their analytical minds to work.

In this, John Linneman said:

"This trailer was interesting because the image quality seemed quite good. I was a little bit surprised by how sharp and clear this looked"#

Alexander Battaglia took an even more clear stance, saying he didn't believe it was running on the Switch - citing the lack of volumetric clouds on Switch and perfect antialiasing. Though we don't technically know what hardware it's running on in the trailer, this is certainly information worth keeping in mind.

What Does This Mean?

It could technically mean they are just artificially bumping the resolution in the trailer but John doubts this - suggesting that Nintendo don't really tend to do this. If it's not this, it could be pointing at a brand new Nintendo Switch model of some kind. We could potentially see a Switch Pro.

This all being said, there was only a five-year gap between the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo Switch. As of last month, it has been five years since the launch of the Nintendo Switch. This new hardware could be pointing at a whole new generation or perhaps somewhere in between. Though we don't technically know all that this entails, it is pretty exciting. We'll update you right here if anything else comes out.
