Switzerland could not have hoped for better results in their opening games of this World Cup: a 1-1 draw against many's favourites, Brazil, and a 2-1 win over Serbia. That could prove the decisive result in Group E.
Switzerland now know that even a defeat against Costa Rica may not prevent their passage into the Round of 16. They will be aware, too, that finishing second could mean avoiding Germany.
Wednesday's meeting with Costa Rica, then, is not likely to be the most riveting spectacle. The Central Americans will not want to leave Russia without a point to their name but they have looked a shadow of the side that reached the quarter-finals in Brazil four years ago.
And Switzerland may be content to go through the motions in the knowledge that Serbia, who sit a point behind the Swiss, face Brazil.
