Starrcade 2017 won't air on the WWE Network despite this stacked card

WWE recently announced that they would be bringing WCW marquee event Starrcade back as a live event in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday, November 25th, 2017. Despite a stacked card and the historical significance of the event, WWE is currently not planning on airing it on the WWE Network. Here's what the live crowd in attendance can expect for this revival of Starrcade, and why WWE has dropped the ball by failing to let their wider audience witness it.

WWE has aired non-PPV events before

The first reason that might come up for why it isn't going to be on the WWE Network is simply because it's not one of WWE's traditional pay-per-view events. However, this wouldn't be the first time WWE held a Network-exclusive event. WWE has actually aired three non-PPV and non-tournament events exclusive to the WWE Network. The first was WWE's "Beast in the East" special featuring Brock Lesnar competing at a live event in Tokyo. On top of that marquee match, the event was also highlighted by an NXT Championship Match between Kevin Owens and Finn Balor which culminated in Balor capturing his first and only NXT Championship.

In October of 2015, WWE aired "Live from MSG: Lesnar vs Big Show." The gist of it is covered in the title, but it was also headlined by a Steel Cage Match between Seth Rollins and John Cena for the US Championship. They even aired Roadblock in March of 2016 as an exclusive before it became one of their PPV events. The short of it is that WWE has shown themselves fully capable in the past of airing non-PPV events on the WWE Network, and depriving their worldwide audience of the resurrection of Starrcade is a mistake.
