The WWE United Kingdom Championship will take centre stage this Friday, as the superstars from 205 Live will compete alongside the company’s top British talents in Norwich, England. Inaugural champion, Tyler Bate will defend his title against former TNA star Mark Andrews (formerly known as Mandrews) in the main event, while the likes of Neville, Jack Gallagher, and Pete Dunne will also be popular should they all make an appearance.
The UK Championship Being Defended
So, what are we expecting from this special? Well first of all, ‘Good Ol’ JR’ will be covering the action alongside the ever popular Nigel McGuiness, which is a solid enough start. But more importantly, we will be treated to a bunch of pretty exciting matches from some of the more dynamic superstars on the roster.
As stated previously, Dudley’s Tyler Bate will be defending his UK title against high-flying Welshman, Mark Andrews in the main event. The champion is only 20-years-old and showed a great deal of skill, determination and pure wrestling ability to win the first ever United Kingdom Championship Tournament back in January, shocking the ‘Bruiserweight’ Pete Dunne in the final to win the belt.
Andrews himself impressed in the tournament and went in as one of the better-known entrants having been a big hit in both the TNA X-Division and on the independent scene. Though he was defeated by Dunne in the semi-finals, it was his athletic ability that lit up the arena in Blackpool that night. And here is a little snippet of his greatness.
The clash of styles and character could make this one hell of a match, with Andrews aerial ability sure to be what gets the WWE Universe on their feet. Whichever way this goes, either man will be a worthy champion. But could we see a change of attitude in one of these two? Something is telling me a heel turn may be on the cards. But what do I know, I’m just a wrestling fan with a hunch?
Crowning a Number One Contender
The villainous Pete Dunne will also be in action against Trent Seven in an all-Midlands contest for the number one contendership. Seven was also involved in the tournament and was one of the early favourites before losing to Wolfgang at the quarter-final stage. Seven is the former tag team partner of Tyler Bate with the two forming ‘Moustache Mountain’, earlier on in their careers. And yes, they both have very snazzy facial hair arrangements.
Rumours have been circling that Dunne is in line for a main spot on the roster and possibly alongside Triple H, suggesting a bright future for the Progress Wrestling champion, but a match against the hugely experienced Seven will surely be well worth a watch, even if just to see Dunne’s incredible Bitter End finisher. There will be high-stakes as the victor will take on the winner of the main event for the title at NXT TakeOver: Chicago the following night.
Also on the card, Scotland’s Wolfgang will square off against fellow tournament competitor Joseph Connors, while 205 Live’s The Brian Kendrick and frenemy TJ Perkins face the new pairing of the former cruiserweight Rich Swann and WCPW alumni, Dan Moloney.
The action will be kicking off at 8 pm (GMT) and will available on the WWE Network. So forget your Friday night plans and tune in, because I have a feeling it’s going to be a pretty good one.
