Now that Kevin Owen’s feud with Sami Zayn has ended – with it culminating at Battleground, where Sami overcame the odds and put an end to the chapter of their story that began when Owens attacked Zayn in NXT. However, on the build up to this PPV event, the draft was fast approaching, so it was assumed that the two would be split up. And this may have been the best idea, seeing as they both need room to allow each other to shine. However, in a strange move by the WWE, they were both drafted to Raw. The feud has ended, and there has been talks that there have been a few second guesses at the draft picks. Owen’s name crops up here, where apparently he may be getting redrafted to SmackDown Live. This probably should have happened in the first place, but it’s safe to assume that he will be getting pushed on whatever brand he stays in.
Tyler Breeze may be getting repackaged and re-pushed in Smackdown. The superstar was great in NXT, with a strong gimmick and organic character, as well as in ring skills to boot – he was over with the crowd. However, he never got a fair chance in NXT, being denied the NXT title during his time in the developmental territory. Hopefully this will change, because according to a report form the DailyWrestlingNews, there are supposed discussions going on between WWE officials to give him a push as a singles star, and split him away from Fandango.
The same report also says that WWE officials have had their eye on the NJPW star Kenny Omega. Apparently, there have been talks lead by Triple H to have Kenny Omega signed to the WWE by mid 2017 – NJPW officials are aware of the interest and are supposedly concerned, as his contract may be running out. At this rate, there will be nothing left of the Bullet Club by the time WWE are finished signing everyone!
Rumours are floating around about a strange dark match that happened after RAW went off air on Monday night. It was obvious that the last two segments of Raw were pushed for time, as Cesaro’s match felt rushed and the Foley/Bryan tête-à-tête also felt rushed. But, after the cameras were turned off, apparently a match happened between Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton – which is very strange, considering that both superstars on on the Smackdown brand. This rumour has caused speculation between a possible feud between Orton and Wyatt after Summerslam.
Eva Marie is supposedly going to be the first Smackdown Women’s champion, due to her being very popular among the WWE officials – who believe she is a polarising figure. Whether fans hate her or love her, one thing is certain – she gets a reaction every time she steps out of the gorilla curtain. And in the world of professional wrestling, money talks and WWE listens. The belief is that she has potential to become a top female star, therefore is likely to get a push for a championship belt sooner rather than later. Smackdown are supposedly making a new women’s championship for their female talents, which is well needed because at the moment it feels like they aren’t fighting for anything. Eva seems to be the logical choice for the first title holder, as no other girl on the roster gets a reaction like she does. If she has improved her in-ring skills under Kendrick’s mentoring, a short reign won’t hurt.
