SmackDown Live Power Rankings: Week of August 22nd

The SmackDown Live Power Rankings are GLORIOUS this week!

SmackDown Live was a good recovery after a sub par showing at SummerSlam, however, due to how a lot of the talent was mishandled at SummerSlam, I found it very difficult to come up with ten names that actually deserved the honour this week!

NUMBER 10: CHAD GABLE AND SHELTON BENJAMIN (FIRST ENTRY)

This is huge for Chad Gable who in all honesty probably was gifted an upgrade in tag team partner from Daniel Bryan this week. From the get go this looks like Shelton is going to turn on Chad Gable fairly quickly, but I’ll let it play out.

NUMBER 9: NAOMI (-2)

Despite losing her championship at SummerSlam, Naomi with the help of Becky Lynch got back into the winner’s circle this week.

NUMBER 8: CARMELLA (=)

Carmella is still holding that Money In The Bank briefcase which means at any moment she could become the SmackDown Live Women’s Champion and with the current holder the sooner the better.

NUMBER 7: NATALYA (+4)

Speaking of which, Natalya ranks in at number seven. I really don’t have that much of an issue with Natty. She is an awesome worker, and she deserves to hold this title at least once. It is just the clear flaw in her character work that leaves me wanting this reign to be a brief(case) one.

NUMBER 6: THE NEW DAY (-3)

The New Day put on a classic match on the Kick Off Show for SummerSlam. Despite losing the straps the sheer quality of their match and the fact they still have a rematch leaves The New Day in good position on the rankings.

NUMBER 5: BOBBY ROODE (FIRST ENTRY)

THE POWER RANKINGS JUST GOT GLORIOUS! Roode made his triumphant debut on the main roster by beating Aiden English convincingly. Boy, am I excited to be able to sing along to Glorious every week and watch Roode on SmackDown Live, AJ Styles feud pronto, please.

NUMBER 4: AJ STYLES (+1)

Speaking of which AJ Styles defended his United States Championship successfully twice this week. I’m really looking forward to finally getting some actual AJ Styles US Championship open challenges, he can do what Cena did for the belt all over again.

NUMBER 3: SHINSUKE NAKAMURA (-1)

By god was it a bad idea to have Shinsuke lose at SummerSlam. However, Nakamura was able to find a small amount of redemption by beating both the Singh Brothers and Kinshasa-ing Jinder right in his head.

NUMBER 2: THE USOS (+2)

The Usos are just too good. I’m happy to see the titles back on them and I’m interested to see where they go after they clean their hands of The New Day.

NUMBER 1: JINDER MAHAL (=)

I may not like it, and trust me, I really, really, really, really, don’t like it. But, Jinder Mahal is still the WWE Champion. If you’re sticking around expecting me to give him further compliments don’t bother. See you next week.
