SmackDown Live Power Rankings: Carmella on the Climb (11 August 2016)

Check out this week's SmackDown Power Rankings to see what new stars are on the rise on the blue brand!

SmackDown Live continued the build towards SummerSlam this week as several ongoing feuds got some new pages added to the story, but we also saw some newer faces make their marks. RealSport’s Weekly Power Rankings have been put together with opinions from several writers within RealSport based on the performance and storylines going on within WWE.

Panel: Patches Chance, Gur Samuel, Toby Durant, Liam Shone, Thomas Clapham

1. Dean Ambrose (Last Week: 1)

PC = 1, GS = 1, TD = 1, LS = 1, TC = 1

The Lunatic Fringe didn’t have the best start to the show as he tried to put an end to Bray Wyatt’s cocky verbal barrage, but ended up eating a superkick from Dolph Ziggler for his troubles. Despite that early miscommunication, the duo worked well together against the team of Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler. After a superkick to Erick Rowan, Ziggler was able to pick up the win for his team, but it was Dean who got the last laugh as he planted Ziggler with Dirty Deeds.

2. Dolph Ziggler (Last Week: 2)

PC = 2, GS = 2, TD = 2, LS = 2, TC = 2

The number one contender to the WWE Championship is doing everything he can to put himself out there and really give himself a renewed reputation as a fighter, but it never seems to end well for him. Ziggler ate a Sister Abigail at the beginning of the show after trying to help Dean Ambrose, and despite picking up the win in the main event he ended the night flat on his back after Dirty Deeds. Can Dolph turn the momentum before SummerSlam?

3. Randy Orton (Last Week: 8)

PC = 3, GS = 3, TD = 4, LS = 3, TC = 4

Randy Orton was on edge due to his continued issues with Brock Lesnar, but this time he got a match on SmackDown that was free of The Beast Incarnate’s interruptions. Orton put on a spectacular showing against the excellence of execution that is Alberto Del Rio. While Del Rio came close, it was an RKO (outta nowhere) that sealed the deal and let Orton pick up the win. Can he do the same in two weeks at SummerSlam?

4. Bray Wyatt (Last Week: 4)

PC = 6, GS = 6, TD = 3, LS = 4, TC = 3

The Eater of Worlds seems more and more like he feels left out. He’s not a part of the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam, but you wouldn’t be able to tell based on who he’s been crossing paths with. Wyatt stood tall at the beginning of SmackDown, but himself and Erick Rowan fell short in the main event. Can Wyatt turn his occasional dominance into a title shot anytime soon?

5. American Alpha (Last Week: 6)

PC = 5, GS = 4, TD = 5, LS = 5, TC = 5

It definitely seems like American Alpha are “Ready, Willing, and Gable” to get a shot at the soon to be introduced Tag Team Championships on SmackDown. The all-star duo took on a pair of nobodies this week, but defeated them in impressive fashion. They were almost ambushed by The Vaudevillains, The Hype Bros, and The Ascension (aka a bunch of former NXT teams), but Alpha ended up sending all of them running in the brawl. Is it just a matter of time before Jordan and Gable get some gold?

6. Carmella (Last Week: Unranked)

PC = 4, GS = 7, TD = 6, LS = 7, TC = 6

Speaking of new championships, there will no doubt be a version of the WWE Women’s Championship on SmackDown in due time. This week, Carmella got to finally make her debut in the ring on SmackDown. Despite an attempted pre-match attack to spoil the debut by Natalya, Carmella took on the Queen of Harts and not only won, but forced her to tap out to the Code of Silence. Can Carmella keep rolling and become the first champion?

7. The Miz (Last Week: 5)

PC = 8, GS = 5, TD = 7, LS = 6, TC = N/A

The Miz was relatively absent this week, aside from an odd appearance on Renee Young’s broadcast table. He drops a few spots, but still reigns as the Intercontinental Champion as he turns his focus to what he hopes will be a successful defense at SummerSlam.

8. Alexa Bliss (Last Week: Unranked)

PC = 7, GS = 10, TD = 8, LS = 9, TC = 7

One woman’s shenanigans are another’s opportunity. Eva Marie’s debut was met with “unforeseen” issues once again, but Alexa Bliss took the moment to take on Becky Lynch in her SmackDown Live Debut. Bliss held strong, and eventually a distraction by Eva Marie was enough for Bliss to take advantage and pick up the win on her birthday.

9. Becky Lynch (Last Week: 10)

PC = N/A, GS = N/A, TD = 9, LS = 8, TC = 8

Becky seems to be plagued by the shenanigans of less than beloved divas. She’s just now gotten the “monkey off her back” in the form of Natalya’s issues with her, but now continues to have problems with Eva Marie. Eva’s debut was delayed this time by a wardrobe malfunction, and Becky’s impromptu match against Alexa Bliss went sideways also due to Eva. Can the fiery redhead get back on track?

10. AJ Styles (Last Week: 9)

PC = 10, GS = 8, TD = N/A, LS = N/A, TC = N/A

Another notable absence from SmackDown, but likely due to ongoing overseas tours that WWE is working. AJ hangs onto a spot this week as he looks forward to finally closing his ongoing chapter with John Cena at SummerSlam. Can he do it without his insurance policy, Gallows & Anderson, at his side?

Also receiving votes: Rhyno, John Cena, Erick Rowan, Baron Corbin
